197: Squeaking noise whilst accelerating..

Just wondered if anyone could have any suggestions for a squeaking noise what appears whilst accelerating at low speed?

A couple of friends I've asked seem to think cambelt.. however the car is an 08 with only 25,000 miles on the clock. I know belts wear away with age, but I don't think this is the problem.

Anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Mine had a slight squeak at idle on cold, was told this was probably auxiliary belt tensioner and told by a renaultsport specialist not to worry about it. Drove it like that for about a year with no problem, had all the belts done at 5 year service and it hasn't squeaked since.

But, that was a quiet squeak, no way you'd hear it under load. Have you visually checked the auxiliary belt to make sure there's no damage on it and also check it's right?

I've heard that cambelts are generally in perfect condition when changed on these engines. But, I have heard that the crank pulley is normally cracked at 5 years....can't see this making a squeaking noise though.

Thanks for the advice dude. I've mentioned this to JamSport in Northampton who are servicing the car in a couple of weeks, and they've kindly agreed to look at it for free.

I noticed actually today after reading your post that the squeaking does in fact happen whilst the car is prone, so I guess I'm in the same boat as you once were.

Thanks for the heads up though dude.
