Sooo... just test-drove a 220 Trophy AGAIN

No because the Cadburys gear box would fall out had two in my 200 in 27k

have to admit, the gearbox is a worry. been through two as well, both under warranty. i'm not spending as much money on the car as i'd like to atm, just because i'd like to have some extra cash if the box goes again (warranty expired a year ago).

@Micah I buy my cars for one reason too rag the living daylights out of them ask anyone who been in a car with me hence Spa is my favourite place because it's the only place that can scare the crap out of me

you should try the nürburgring. i find it infinite times scarier.

The problem with the Ring which I've done five times now it's not as quick re though the corners plus I've one car and a short temper. @Micah

I bought a Clio 182 in March as a bit of fun. In truth it cost a fortune to repair and my wife hated driving it. 6 months after buying the 182, I traded it in for a 200t. I can't get the wife out of it. We both want to drive it when we go out and she uses it to got to work in. It has totally been worth while changing to it. It isn't as fun as the 182, but we use it far more, so it works much better. It just depends on the situation you have, but the 200t is a totally different car to its predecessors. For some, such as myself, it totally works. For others, not so much.

Very well put arran. They are chalk and cheese to a 182 but depends what your after!

I've bought a mk3 as it looks the nuts and I wanted and car I can track cheaply ( relatively) I think they look the best. Wouldn't look twice synthetic later cars. Got no soul.

I have a 2012 mk3 Gordini and when the Clio 200T came out I went to test it both on the road and track. My expectations were quite low after reading so many bad reviews on the gearbox, but I actually enjoyed the car. It was a nice all rounder, the gearbox was fine in the city (I live in the city centre), the only problem being downshifts on track. The car was really good but didn't attract me as a mk3, it didn't have that special thing. After entering my mk3, I remembered why I bought it... manual and NA, the car has so much more character... cars like these are not built anymore :pensive:

The mk3 is the last of a dying breed. Can't believe how low the prices are falling considering

Here in my country they are actually holding quite well. The car costed me 19.000€ in 2013 (RP 29.950€ in 2012, poor first owner!) and is still worth around 16.500€

You'd be lucky to get £10000 over here at current prices

Ever tempted by the common phrase that is 'VIP passes sell cars' I popped down to my local dealer yesterday with lanyard in hand to see what mega exclusive discounts I could enjoy from the Renault range.
I won't lie, I confessed to Father Dunham earlier this week that I was fighting the urge to change to a 220 Trophy. As always, Kev sung its praises and amazed me at his selflessness to help me out and arrange for me to do an extended test drive if my dealer was a heap of shite. Fortunately, I spent about 2 hours with the sales guy and he was more than happy for me to give his demo a damn good run in the lanes. 73mph felt like 50mph, it was insane, and he even encouraged me to chuck it around a well cambered roundabout.
Contrary to my initial post in this thread, it ticks a lot of boxes for me, and I wasn't even a fan of the facelift Mk4 when it came out!
What I really enjoyed was the 'parp' on the upshift in RS mode, the cloth seats are excellent, it's incredibly nimble and I now consider it a very nice looking car, especially with those wheels (though nothing will ever beat the looks of the Mk3). In short, it's just a new generation of Clio.
I know what you're all thinking - WTF is Micah ON?!
Same here, but I think something fundamental has changed in what I want from a car in the past couple of weeks, and I feel it's time to move on after a mere 18 months of throwing a lot of money at it. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but that's just the way it goes, there's just been a shift in my mind and even after driving mine yesterday and today, I feel like I want out.
I haven't bought the demo as we were too far apart in what I wanted to do finance wise, and has re-affirmed the price point I was thinking of, in which I could buy one. The salesman was very good and pulled out all the stops but I wasn't going to buy on emotion, I needed to sleep on it.
So, as much as it saddens me, my 200 is going up for sale and I'll see how that goes. It's a tough market out there so if no luck then I'll just keep it and probably buy one next year.

We chucked it in RS mode Kev and he encouraged me to keep it long in the gear. The car is like a missile! Will see what happens and will be in touch if we need to take a trip to Renault Watford

Another interesting insight buddy.

Life moves on Micah. Do we 'keep up' or stay static. The MK3 is great - if a little raw. As we get older the requirement for a few creature comforts and some daily pampering generally grows. And with a 220 you gain in performance in every area to boot. With alot of easy tuning potential too of course. We'll have to agree to disagree on the looks though. Stir my loins it never will; whatever else it brings to the table.

I pretty much mirror your feelings if i'm 100% honest and have thought about a change for a while as has been documented. At this point in my life having just got 'rid' of my kids; the lure of seeing a bit more of the World has a greater draw right now though and you can only spend it all once......

Needless to say i'll be quite jealous if and when you pull the trigger

Yeah I went to go drive a 220 trophy and really did like it but my car felt much more raw and like a hot hatch, saying that the interior is sooooooo much nicer than mine it's a joke and was certainly quick, would love a tuned one.

Although for £15k+ I would buy a mint E46 M3
