Shuv's Racing Blue 200...................

Be interested if he can get it cleaner than you can lol

Ceramic coating is something I’ve thought of but can’t really see myself pulling the trigger. Maybe some photos of yours once it’s done will encourage me more.

Glad you’ve still got it. Hope you enjoy driving it this summer

Bit of a rollercoaster of emotions for you there I bet! Did they give a reason as to why they changed their mind? Good to see it staying with you though.

I’ve been really impressed by ceramic coatings it’ll be good to see what you think. I’ve had a couple of cars with G Techniq coatings professionally done in the past, it seems to last a long time if looked after properly.

If i'm honest i'm not 100% convinced with the Ceramic thing. Only one way to find out though ! (Detailer i'm using has had 3 Track Cars in recently getting ready for new season for reference: in terms of being able to get hot tarmac / sticky rubber off easily / quickly.....). And yes; i intend to. Thanks !

Yes of course i was given a reason Peter. And for him a very valid one. Still nothing to do with me and a situation i shouldn't have been involved or dragged into. But: my near loss - is now my gain ! Pretty sure the saying went: "You don't know what you've got until it's nearly gone" didn't it ? :sunglasses:

Tell me about your Ceramic experiences please Peter; in terms of longevity, thoughts on what benefits you found / ease of cleaning etc.....

its too clean to notice now lol!!!

Compliment gratefully accepted. (Unless you see it right now - With nearly a year's worth of indoor garage dust atop of it.....)

Worked yesterday morning from 6.00am and was too pooped for anything in the afternoon. Worked today too until 1pm; and had so much planned. Until it unleashed an almighty hail-storm down.....

Did manage to remove the rear quarter RenaultSport decals - i know you've all been secretly smirking at  - before then.

I wouldn't have put them on by choice either. But was also worried removing might show 'ghosting' in the paintwork. But upcoming Ceramic coating was the kick i needed:

Looks like i've been a lucky boy, seeing as god knows how long they've been on the car. Can't see a single trace....

Seeing as i was in the mood, got rid of a little Orange in the cockpit, and the Orange dash decals too....

Gonna run it (ie: Start taxing and use it) from May 1st - End Oct and am quite excited if i'm honest. Got a few plans before then. We'll see how many happen !

What ceramic it will be?
I recommend gtechnic exo v4. Many of my friends use it in our climate and it is just so good. 79pounds for 1 car. Product only including 2 bottles. (30ml each)

Remember.. when you have ceramic coating you dont need any waxes or sealants. All my carnaubas are drying in the garage.. no use.

I have ceramic coating in my 197 as you know and it is worth every penny.

After researching: I’ve gone for CarPro CQuartz 3.0 UK Edition.

Hope I feel the same as you afterwards !

Okay my friend had Cquartz finest in his E39 M5 which was carbon black. It was summer car only. He told me that coating was good.
I am still debating myself if i put ceramic Gtechnic or wax for my 330ci. I dont know yet.
How expensive 3-step polishing + Cquartz will be, any estimate? I suppose you pay full list price including vat?

I’ve had the full G Techniq coatings applied to two cars, first was a new car which I kept about a year and a half I think. When I sold it the coating was pretty much like new, most of the time a quick jet wash would get the vast majority of the dirt off (including from the wheels). The bits that didn’t came off easily by hand.

The second car I’ve had done is my current Clio. The coatings are just about totally off now which means they’ve lasted about 4 years. Same story with washing but it’s gradually needed more and more washing by hand. One thing to note though is I’ve not looked after them, not by choice, I just haven’t had much time to clean it anywhere near as much as I should.

The glass coating has been the first to go both times (where the wipers wipe) but it’s still lasted a fair while.

What did you pay to have the Clio ceramic coated Peter? If you’d prefer to PM me that’s fine. I’d be grateful for a ball park figure before I start researching having mine done

From researching: Prices go from £300 (Basic single stage polish + lower grade Ceramic) in these parts to £2500 in London. For essentially what is the same type of service / quality.

My local guy is quoting £695 for 3 stage polish and I think wheel faces only are either included or are £50 extra.

To remove wheels and do ‘properly’ inside barrels and all; was £125 on its own if having paintwork done at same time.

I’m having wheels off and fully done, but he thinks he may get away with a 2 stage polish on the paint to achieve 80% odd correction. I’m then having a base layer and a top layer of ceramic to add longevity.

So the answer is “I don’t fully know the cost” at this point.

I’ve told him I want it as good as is reasonably practical -bearing in mind rising costs. But not such a stupidly expensive / ridiculously perfect job that I’ll be afraid to use it.

Thanks very much for the info Peter. Insightful :grinning:

Just paint and wheels being done here. I need something to do myself of a sunny weekend !

Wow prices are a bit bonkers down south aren’t they! @Big Ben i think I paid in the region of £200, I’m guessing it’ll be a bit more now with it being a few years ago. That was full paint correction (clean, decontaminate, polish etc), wheels off and full clean, interior full clean, engine bay dressed and coatings on everything.

That’s a great price. Back then or not !

Horses for courses. Depends on what you want out of it. And like anything in life - chasing the last 10% gets expensive.

Plenty here spent way in excess of 4 figures on coil overs, custom springs, 4 corner weighting, geo etc.

I chose £150 springs

If it was £200 I’d of done it already:tearsofjoy:

That really was a great price. Doubt I’d get even close to that down here. Might be worth travelling North to get it done though if it’ll save me a packet. Food for thought

A small bottle of CQuartz is £100 for example. I’m not sure if that will be enough for a couple of coats on paintwork and wheels (?). Let alone the costs of at least a couple of days labour machine polishing, having the wheels done etc.

I’m not knocking anyone or anything here, or pretending what I’m getting is anything other than pretty average. But there are many ways to skin a cat and many levels of detailing / prepping a car. Same as there’s houses and houses, watches and watches and Coilovers, Custom Springs, Geo etc - or a cheap set of springs (My personal choice) which I eluded to earlier.

Point is I don’t think we’re all comparing apples and apples here as such; in ref to this discussion seeming being primarily based on cost alone perhaps in the last few posts....

Very valid points. Each job Will undoubtedly have a lot of variables price wise.
Was only looking for ball park figures.... somewhere between £200 & £1500 sounds likely:grinning:

LMFAO.

I’d say to do a decent prep (To get good visual end appearance, best adhesion of Ceramic and therefore longevity of product) is £400 minimum from my talking to 3 local guys.

More prep, base layers, wheels done etc adds to that of course.

Oh and yours; in lovely Albi would look AWESOME with Ceramic IMO.

Good luck !
