197: Servicing

Hi everyone,

I am after some advice if possible please. My 197 is coming up for it's 4th service (the first one since I have owned the car, it has been serviced previously at 4,286 miles, 6,076 miles and 9,331 miles and is now approaching 18,000 miles). I live in the Dartford area and wondered if anyone knows of any good specialists around my area? Or do most people take their cars to Renault main dealers? I think my closest one is Orpington. Has anyone used them? Also does anyone know the rough costs for a service out of interest? As above the car has currently done just under 18,000 miles and is 4 years old this March.

I was going to ask about tyres as well but I see Evo mag did a tyre test this month and the Continental Sport Contact 3 came out best so think I will be sticking with them.

Hi Keith,

First off. Welcome to the forum!

Next, Do not take your car to Renault Orpington. I have had multiple dealings with them and there work and customer service is really bad. Only reason i got back to them at the moment is due to still having a warranty with them.

Regarding the tyres: Alot of peeps on here like the conti's, also alot of people are using Hankook V12's.
I personally have not used them, but people rate them for the price!

Currently have goodyear asymmetric 2. And they have performed really well.

519 automotive is doing service packs he has a page on the forum may be worth a look,
been there and had work done myself which im very happy with and intend on going back soon for some other stuff to be done.

as for tyres im trying out the conti 5's and have to say i wish i'd stuck with the 3's IMO they're alot more better than the 5's in terms of grip on the road i get alot of spin and less tracktion with the 5's not a great tyre in my eyes

+1 for 519Automotive, very friendly and personal service, you get looked after. Prices 9 out of 10 times are cheaper than anywhere too.

You may find it hard to find the conti 3s

On tyres - I've just replaced my SC3's with the SC5. Obviously old tyres against new comparison, so have that pinch of salt ready, but I feel they are a much better tyre.

I think someone else on here mentioned they were trying the Megane 265 Potenza tyres as well. I'd be interested in how they find them.
