Service Schedule, Cambelt etc.

mine is a 56 plate and hasn't been done yet, (not down to me only bought it over a month ago) and it still wont be getting done for another 5 month,
although i will :'( if it dose go im trying not to use it much

if it does let go its usually cheaper to fit a new engine!

I am having the same thought my self, my car will be 5 years old in September some time away I know but will come around fast.

Only done just over 17,000 miles but my only worry is my belts may have deteriorated due to not being used very much, only done something silly like 1,000 in the last year.

I suppose as long as you get them checked it *should* be ok, no one can really tell or say for sure if its going to let go.

This. You could fit a brand new belt tomorrow and it could let go on Friday if it's a bad one.

At that point you'd be saying ''sh!t, old belt never snapped''.

I'm having this dilemma mine was 5 years old at the end of November, and has 34k on the clock, was looking to get it done and was told the belts were fine and to leave it another year.

But I'm having it done when I get back off holiday to be on the safe side, as my mums turbo has gone on her c4 leobe, so better to be safe.

Would anyone recommend anywhere in the Rotherham/Sheffield area don't mind traveling but not to far

another question is "how do they check the belts" - the top cambelt cover is bolted on and isnt a 2 minute job!

Theres a Renault specialist just off M1 junction 34, meadowhall turn off south bound, cant remember name, but I had mine serviced there last January and asked about timing belt, they quoted £550 including genuine parts, I would think they know what they are doing as they race Renault sports of all kinds, they have new Megane RS's now, someone correct me if i'm wrong please, as I am about to book mine in for new belt.

I wouldn't use these if you paid me. GFs dad used em for his 225 Megane and had quite a few problems, including them wrecking his under tray and giving him his car back with it hanging off not apologising and doing a half arsed job of fixing it even after him taking it back complaining.

Choices would be (from what I've figured in the last couple of days)

RS Tuning - Leeds very competent, ignore the price in my first post as that includes lots of other stuff

Harratts Renault - Pontefract or Wakefield

DDC - Doncaster cheapest (£380 inc. water pump) I've used them before (so has GrumpyTwig I think), they're nice lads, ex Renault and are also a K-tec dealer/fitter. Though their parts aren't Renault (you could request them though).

Birchdown - these guys also know their Renaultsport a bit of a drive over the Pennines though.

Good point, I'd not really thought of it (or looked under the bonnet to think it through  )

Evans Halshaw offered to check mine as part of the free Safety Check. If they actually would or not is a different matter...

Mines an 08 so the belts should be due in april at 5 years.

I phoned my local renault service center to get a price and they came back to me to ask the milage which i told them was 50k.

They then said that there is no need to have them done this year and will be needed next year at year 6.

I then phoned RUK to confirm if this is correct and they did indeed confirm that it is now 6 years or 72k on my car.

So do i or don't i ?

Im toying with the idea of splitting down the middle and having them done around August time.

If Renault said no then it's no I would say. The way I'm looking at it is; It's not like we've been told never to do them, just that its the 6th year service not the fifth (exactly the same as EVERY 200, which have the same parts fitted so we aren't pushing a part beyond its lifespan).

Any other Joe Bloggs with any other car would ring their dealership and do what they're told when they're told.

Tbh mate I'm not sure how they checked it I just asked them to when I had it serviced at a local garage.

I'm no expert clueless when it comes to working on cars I just drop off and pick up lol

Mine was 5 years old in October 2012 and i'm on 64k now. Still not had them done!

Pushing my luck..... you decide

me personally would get your nearest dealer to put it in writing, then if the belt does go between 5-6 years then youve got proof that it was advised by renault, and get a new engine out of them

That picture in the first post is from my local dealer. I just blanked out my VIN
