And trust me, it actually makes you more connected with the car. With a manual the very act of changing gear, off gas, on clutch, choose gear, move stick, off clutch, on gas takes you away from the driving experience rather than getting you more involved.

I like it... but... I think it's the beginning of the end for Renaultsport when their focus is making it more acceptable to people who wouldn't normally drive a car like this. If this isn't normally the car for them, why is it being made that way? Do it properly Renault ffs!

I wouldn't say it's the beginning of the end. I'd say think of it like Porsche making Cayenne's etc. Build some cars for the masses so they can actually make money and continue making niche cars for the few (i.e. cup chassis with a manual gearbox or Alpine A110's)

It's the watering down of the RS brand that bothers me. BMW ///M has been absolutely ruined too. Money is king.

In my eyes they will be offering their GT3 in the form of an more focused version by the end of 2018. They said in the press release that was the plan. They're hoping to make a bit of money by selling joe public the dual clutch version and keeping the purists happy by having a cup chassis and manual box.
They've stayed away from the stupid power battle and said the car is a fun and capable car rather than being about numbers. This is what RS has always been???
This could of course all turn out to be rubbish if the car's no good.

But I do feel like the RS brand is being watered down. I worry they're heading towards putting RS badges on a base model because you can buy a bumper kit or something. Hope not but money money money...

It's because you're making more effort to make the car work and it takes your focus away from the very thing you're aiming at: making progress. Once the gear change happens almost telepathically, you're more focused on the road. It's a brain shift. And a good one in my opinion.
Don't forget, it's not an auto. It has auto mode, but when you're on it and it's in manual mode, honestly, I feel much more part of the car.

I'm on the fence with this one.
I hear and see all the arguments - and from my time in a GTR and 200 / 220T i know what a semi-auto is, what it's capable of, how it works and its benefits in: Time spent between cogs, freeing up the grey matter to concentrate on other more important things, being able to keep both hands on the wheel etc.
But 'making progress' isnt everyone's goal. It very rarely features on my agenda. If i wanted 'fast' the majority of the time; i ultimately wouldn't be here full-stop. I want fun. And that's purely about sensations and feelings.
Some of us are more than aged enough now to be a peg or two down from full-on race-mode and actually enjoy the process not just the progress or end result per-se. A process that involves and engages you when you change gear, heel and toe, rev-match, blip the throttle just because...... and all that mallarky. When i fancy it and on my terms.
And not for one second am i saying i'd never consider one, that im hard-core old-skool, that flappy paddles detract from the sensation or that i'm just old and set in my ways - but i would say i do genuinely enjoy the tactile process of changing gear and the satisfaction from a perfectly executed change. Whatever that happens to be in a particular situation.

i'm not arguing a dual clutch is faster and i can see why not thinking about changing gear with a stick and a third pedal, lets you focus more on steering, braking and loud pedal operation, but is that more involvement? maybe, just maybe you just don't have the mental capacity to do it the old fashion way ... (hey bad cop, you can see the wink smiley right? please don't ban me. )
