Rally Clio 197

Damn bro could have been much worse! At least you enjoyed. Just prep for next season now! All part of learning. Mega quick in to those corners by the way, tremendous effort.

Looks like it could have been much worse from the first pics but that twisted alloy is a real eye-opener! It must have been some impact.

How much did it cost You, i have nothing but problems with mine. Was using tape but it doesn't look very tidy and affects paint job as well so looking for some better solution.
It is still a prototype. There are two btw... one for the front part, one for the small back opening. If the final version is done, I could sell you those. Should be around 35-40€ + Shipping.

Yeah I know... Would have been much worse if I hitted one of the first two trees.

The damage is much worse than i thought. The front axle is also broken.

I am trying to get some sponsoring for this season, so I can continue with my championship. But it doesn't look very good at this moment.

Forgot the update...

I repaired the car and participated at the last race for my championship. I had some steering problems and a cracked exhaust header. But I finished the race with place 9 of 26 in my class. I got enough points to finish my championship on the 2nd place out of 30 teams

I try to get some new sponsors for next year and get some upgrades for the car.

One of the Clios is still racing. Amazing and powerful car with lots of R3 parts. He is winning mostly every rally in his class where he starts :flushed:

Some more pics of the last rally i was visiting this year:

Looks like the old videos don't work anymore. My favourite one:

Another one of my very first test back in 2015. You can see the open-diff problems at the corners.

I just stumbled across this old thread about my previous rally clio. Guess what, there is a new one since this year! :grinning:

It's a well built Clio 3 RS with lots of parts from the R3 Maxi and more.

The car has 230 hp at 7800 rpm. We also tried 8400 rpm and had about 245 hp, but the car should stay reliable.

Weight is about 1090 kg (without spare tyre and fuel). I am still trying to find another 40 kg as 1050 kg is the minimum weight in my class. Does anyone know the weight of the OEM doors?

Startup:

And there is another one from last weekend (3rd place in our class). Unfortunately we had some issues with our dogbox on this day. Therefore I had to use the clutch for upshifting too.

Cheers,
Marius

Awesome! How have you got that much hp?!! That pedal box looks cool as well.

Doors are 30kg+ with glass / mechanism.
The engine was built new from scratch with high compression pistons, machined head, rally cat cams, full R3 Maxi Evo header + exhaust, R3 Maxi Evo Carbon intake, MBE 9A9 ECU with full remapping.

I wanted to share some news and how the season went for us this year.

All in all we had two 1st places and multiple 3rd places in our class and we are quite happy with it for our first year together in the cockpit. My co-driver had his first rally season ever!

We hope that we can improve our driving in the next year as we are still a little bit slow in the first few stages of every rally.

Unfortunately we had an issue with our dogbox in the last event and were not able to finish the rally. Propably some bad dog rings, but we were expecting that to happen.

A lot of things will happen this winter. We will revise the gearbox and change some bits on the engine: new rod bearings and changing the current exhaust cat cam (293°) to a 282°. Inlet will stay 300°. This will help to improve torque and power in the mid RPM's. Currently we need to rev the car to the limiter to get the full potential of the engine, which can be tricky on some rally tracks.

Next thing that will be done is a full aero package that is developed and built by me. For the front of the car I already built a Kevlar/Carbon splitter. Additionally there will be two different sized canards on each side, some air dam in front of the tires and a small air dam on top of the splitter.
In the rear we will have a big wing (s1223 airfoil) that will be placed backwards. But I still need to simulate and calculate how much to have a proper aero balance between front and rear.
The rear wing itself has a width of 1400 mm and a chord length of 200 mm. In free airflow it makes about 31 kg of downforce at 100 km/h, 54 kg at 130 km/h and 81 kg at 160 km/h. At Vmax which is 176 km/h for my car it should be around 100 kg.
The parts at the front of the car still need to be simulated which will be done in the next weeks.

If it works out properly on track I want to offer the same parts to everyone in future.

If you have questions or suggestions let me know! I appreciate any input.

A lot of things happened in the last months. Gearbox and Engine are out of the car and getting rebuilt at the moment.

And I 3D scanned everything, just in case I need it in future:

I started building carbon fiber parts for the car, beginning with the bonnet. Weight is 2,6 kg, but I should be able to get it lighter. I will build some more in future.

Video of demoulding:

Next thing we did was to cut the rear bumper. It will reduce drag and also improve cooling for the rear brakes:

Another upgrade is the polished and port machted intake manifold where Max from MS Custom Engineering did a great job:

Last but not least I started with the big front canards. Currently I am building the moulds:

The first layer of gel coat needs to cure for 24 hours. After that I will continue with the layup of multiple carbon fiber layers (I have a lot of cut offs laying around, otherwise I would use glassfiber).
