Poor running, help!

The coil packs will have no warning light or error codes I fixed a car with two coil packs down with a Renault clip and that was the case the spark plugs did help highlight which coils were faulty on visual inspection. A dealer had the car he must have got it cheap as the last owner thought the engine was on it's way out or a massive repair bill as no-one could pinpoint what was wrong and got rid of it, the guy knew I had an unhealthy knowledge of Clio's and took less than an hour and I was able to swap coils from my car to prove it although I did run a catalytic converter test with the clip to see if the lambdas were out of whack.

Hi Turkie,

I suspect it may well be the coil packs, am I right in saying there's 1 pack per cylinder?

Will check for any water/oil in the spark plug housing when I change em tomorrow, is there anything else I should be looking for?

Turning into a bit of a nightmare! Just hope it's something simple like you described, rather than a shot cylinder head!

Update - issue resolved! Changed all 4 spark plugs now it's running beautifully

Old ones were covered in crud.

All good now

Yea but that's water did that you need to check why they are like that some have had the washer jet pipework leak but normally only one cylinder affected or do you think it was out in the rain with the bonnet up or power washed. Is yours a cup with no under bonnet insulation?

It's a standard 200 so has the insulation. Every time I open the bonnet there seems to be water and/or oil sitting on the block just behind the coil pencils. The rubber coil seals have seen better days as well so might try and source replacements to stop it happening again.

Probably washer jet leaking or something

Get it checked out, checking if the washer jets is easy, take off the insulation and see if it's obvious, if not lay cardboard on the engine, close bonnet and spray washers, then see where it is leaking.

Oil is normally from the bolts on the cam cover, you can undo a bolt at a time and put sealant to stop this (do not take off loads, as you'll then mess up your timing).

If left too long you'll take a coil pack or more with the leaks.
