Ok... The 200T vs 200 comparison!!!!

As some of you may know; I work on the sales side of Renault, and I recently got the chance to sample the new RS Clio 200 EDC at Donnington Park.

Now; straight to the facts.

Acceleration: no comparison - the launch control is phenomenal! Works every time.

Handling: Tested both Cup and no Cup chassis'. I can report the Cup chassis is very well refined, and the fun is not lost.
The non cup however, there is a definite sense of roll and lift off over steer is less easily accessible.

Torque: Such great pull through the whole range, really helps climbing hills, especially noticeable on track.

So the defining factor: would I/you buy one?

Well; even working for Renault, I'd say the price was a little OTT, but to be perfectly honest, I'm trading my 200 in...

The overall capabilities of the car are outstanding. I wasn't expecting to like the car, I wanted to hate it. But I've came away ready to order one.

You can really feel the adaption of an Electronic Diff, especially on track, and for those who were complaining about shift delays, the new software mapping was on a couple of them - and it's how it should be. That will be standard ASAP!

Is there any questions anyone has about the car, I'd be happy to answer.

P.S. I also drove the GT. what a car!!!!

Thanks,

Jack

What's the deal with the launch control jack? Is it right that the ecu will only allow 1500 starts?

I could do that in a year.. Lol

Did you get hit in the face by the front badge  it all sounds great but for me the Clio should be hard to live with, fall apart, cost a fortune but make you forget all that when you drive it

No lack of warranty if launched - unlike every other manufacturer.

3-5 launches per 10 minutes. 5 minutes in between another 3-5 - depending on temperatures.

No limitations from what I've been told today.

Great to hear a comparison tho from an actual 200 owner tho. For me the new 200T doesn't tick any boxes although I'm def booking some Renaultsport track days next year to firstly have a go in one on track and secondly to run rings round it in mine.. Lol

Ill upload some pictures. Looks awesome in black and LY.

Was a Clio Williams there; Frank Williams' old car - #0001!! Only 659 miles on the clock!

I wanted to hate it, but on a track - it's incredible. The changes were delayed, which I knew about, but when I drove the updated software - it was incredible. I just wish it was a manual and had the Brembo and Recaro contract still.

You probably saw my mate James there! He went too (he works at Renault Wolverhampton) and he was very impressed with the Clio. He was saying similar things to you. He really likes the GT too, he's having one soon I think. Bit disappointed about the GT having rear drum brakes though!

I'd happily own an LY Cup.

And Renault will happily relieve you of close to £21,000 for the privilege. How they justify that for a Clio I don't know. Ford gotta be loving this right now, I know if I were in the market for a new hot hatch it would be the Fiesta hands down.

The Fiesta is too small though. Can't fit a pram in the boot or squeeze a baby seat between the door frame and the phat Recaro front seats. Also, if your child has legs whilst sitting in the baby seat that doesn't fit in the rear, the front seats have to be pulled all the way forwards thus meaning the driver or front seat passenger can't have legs.

Just not practical enough.

I'm getting a fiesta luckily for me I have none of those things to think about
Clio 4 phase 2 if you like, will be the one to get.

Sounds like it impressed but regardless of how a good a car drives I couldn't own an ugly car, and whilst looks are subjective I think the general consensus is that it's ugly

10 years ago, I was the proud owner of a Williams in mint condition, to this day it is still the best car I have ever had.

In that case buy a Focus ST much more car for the money. Dealers are selling ST2s from £21,500. I know what is have if it had to be a 5 door hot hatch and it ain't French.
