No.008

I now have number 8 having picked it up early May. Looks like it has come down from Scotland and I picked it up from Penrith, Cumbria and now it's in Leeds!

It was completely standard, 2 owners and 42k miles.

The cars running standard ff suspension as far as I can see so I'm looking at refreshing it now as it's likely 8 years old.. it's registered Nov '10 and with the new RS style badges so I presumed that it had the new style top mounts.. but I've checked and they look like the old style from pics I've seen.. is this right? 7d5a799f338a2d20353c62768f30b842.jpg

are you keeping it standard or have you modified it?
I was considering keeping it standard.. but I'm going to be modifying it as I go along yes!

So far I've fitted a panel filter (Ramair) and I've just today remapped it with an RS Tuner and the Fastchips map! I know it's not going to give much in the way of power but should hopefully rid it of the god awful kangarooing from cold and make it run better.

Now I wasn't sure about the marmite wheels.. I was going to get them powder coated gloss black but I've decided on some new lighter wheels now which are on order. The tyres are rubbish 'Orium' from Arnold Clark (made by Michelin) but they were brand new so reluctant to change them so just debating that at the minute!

Exhaust will probably wait until this standard one goes bad.. but I'm not sure how long they last on these?

I lasted about 6 weeks without modding thinking I'd keep it standard.. [emoji85]

First mod was this Ramair panel filter, pretty much half the price of an ITG one which is why I opted for it, they've got a good rep as well and I've had them in previous cars with no problems. 5676d18aa596a612ab261fb00649b4f8.jpg

I'm never going to complain about someone going for lighter wheels having done so myself & I know I am in a minority in thinking Gordini wheels with the blue inserts are by far the nicest Clio wheels. When I was looking for my Clio Gordinis were right up there! Rejected any without those wheels though. Was actually on my way down to Bristol from Inverness to view a Gordini when I checked with a dealer in Bedfordshire whether he still had the car I ended up buying. Guy in Bristol sounded really disappointed when I phoned to say I wasn't coming.

Having never really done any work on my previous cars myself I thought I'd start on the Gordini given the great information and guides on this site! I went out and bought all the tools and things I'd need to do the brakes etc myself last week..

The rear discs were in a right state and looked horrendous so had to be changed! Opted for Mtec drilled and grooved and did the pads all around with EBC Yellowstuff having read around and the price was good on them compared to other options.

The fronts weren't too bad to do.. not seized or anything, the rears were a pain though, everything was seized and covered in crap! Then the next day the handbrake wasn't working on the o/s so had to free up the mechanism at the back of the caliper which was sticking but all has been ok since.

I've cancelled the wheels now! They weren't in stock so I was having to wait but to be honest I do like these standard ones.. they do look a little tired now though so maybe need a refurb at some point.

I got new boots instead last week as well, Eagle F1's and rid of the budget Arnold Clark specials!

Not used F1s myself but they're pretty highly rated as a road tyre. Good call!
