My Liquid Yellow R27 progress #172

Jeez that is rude!!
Smiles per pound the Clio wins hands down. You couldn't buy a golf for less than £5k and have half the fun that you get with a Clio.
I bet he's never driven a sorted 197/200 down a good 'b' Road?
Yeah the blokes a bit of a bellend anyway, hats off to what he does to Audi rs6s and the like but didn't like his attitude. I'd say this is probably the most fun car I've owned, not the quickest but probably the most fun.

That kind of attitude seems to go hand-in-hand with anyone who deals with Audis - whether it's drivers, tuners, sellers, etc

Here's one for you OCD nuts out there. It was worth a photo

IMG_2749.JPG

All exhaust joins now sealed and rear boxes adjusted. I'd have liked to get the left hand tip a bit lower but there wasn't really an easy way of doing it so I adjusted the right hand box to get the tip higher to match the other. Not perfect but a lot better than before. Doesn't touch the diffuser and actually looks quite tidy flush.

Once that was done there was just another thought in the back of my mind to check the spark plugs. It says they were done a year ago but wouldn't hurt to look. They all look fine but 3 of them weren't that tight at all. Tightened those up and took it for a drive and I have to say it does feel better, now the exhaust is sealed and the plugs are tight it has got rid of a little stutter/hesitation it had when getting on the throttle. Engine note seems smoother too.

Another successful evening

good day to do something on your car for sure..there have been a few people (including myself) having trouble with badly aligned exhaust..glad you sorted it..
reminded me that i could check my plugs too..

Yeah I was working til about 5 so didn't start til after that! Amazing what a difference plugs can make. I was surprised even tightening them up had helped

Ha, good work on the OCD photo

Glad you got the exhaust sorted, I'm another one that's had fitment issues with mine. Still getting a buzz/rattle, which I'm thinking could be a loose mount, or screw. Hard to pinpoint...

Also, loving the plate, both the lettering and the plate itself - very nice.

A little fly by compilation from this evening. First time I'd heard the car go past with someone else driving! Sounds way better in person but nice to get a video. I hope to do more once it's been mapped as you can hear the flat spot when the car pulled away in the video

Sounds great. Apart from the flat-spot. Really 'struggling' and fuelling badly at that point isnt it.....

What manifold / system ?

Yes it's awful. Standard manifold with cat, milltek decat and milltek cat back. I bought the car with just the cat back and it was just as bad. Ktec have assured me they'll cure it but I wonder if it is worse than it should be? I've learned to drive around it but when I spoke to a couple of local mechanics (with a tuning interest, not just basic mechanics) about it and they say it doesn't sound right but when I told them it's normal in these 197s they kind of accept that. I don't know I've never had a car like it. I guess we'll find out on 3rd August (remap day)

Been a bit quiet recently but I have replaced all the discs and pads (all but one because the bearing wasn't seated correctly in the new disc, new one arrived today).
I've gone for Brembo HC front discs and genuine Renault rears because of the wheel bearings, Ferodo DS2500 pads all round. Also freed up the rear sliders as they had seized, new sliders and rubber boots fitted. Freed up the pistons in the front callipers too. I think each corner was just using the inner side of the disc looking at the wear. These brakes are going to feel incredible now!

Remap on Thursday, wheels being sent off for powder coating next week and seats to be re-trimmed at the end of the month.

Finally coming together! That will be everything on my original list (and more along the way) done by the end of the month. Time to start enjoying it properly!

New brakes all round definitely isn't what I'd class as being "a bit quiet"

Top work mate, I bet they feel amazing. Always good to get new brakes!

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with the retrim

Haha no I meant quiet on here! I hope they do feel good, I did the rest of the brakes on Saturday but ran into a problem with the faulty rear wheel bearing and didn't want to bed the nice new pads on the old rusty disc so I haven't driven it since! New disc on tonight then test drive! As for the seats I'm just going for bolster re-trim with factory material so it will just look like it did 10 years ago with a bit of luck. I guess we'll see soon!

Arrived at K-tec just waiting for the re-map, fitted this to keep those grubby mits off my nice alcantara wheel!

There's some proper cars here though.

R26R and a supercharged R27 in the showroom

Sorry to question the accuracy of these readings, but if this engine has standard internals. I think Ktec need to get there rolling road calibrated.
