MS 200 fun road and track car - and other car stuff!

5 minutes of fettling today...

Some grip tape on the brake pedal:

Does anyone know if there's an auto pedal that will fit easily? Be nice to have a wider pedal for left foot braking.

And a cryptic sticker on the windscreen:

Interior is fabulous. It was before tbh. Now more-so. A 'special' place to reside indeed !

Looks ace

So why is it all as you want it apart from one or two things......?

Thanks mate!

So the plan when I bought it was refresh where necessary, make it capable of doing the odd trackday and add a dash of luxury inside.

There are just a couple of gripes that remain.

First of which I have alluded to, in that the exhaust is too loud for me. As some may have seen I plan on adding a slightly smaller than oem mid box and seeing where that gets me.

Secondly, I'm not particularly tall (6'), but I have short legs and a long torso so I frequently struggle with headroom in cars. The high seating position of this means I have the same problem, so I have a set of Tamas' lowered mounts on the way to get me sitting a bit lower!

Hopefully they get here in time for me to fit before the trackday on Saturday!

Once that's done it will hopefully just be a case of small and gradual improvements and enjoying the car! Need to divert my attention and funds both to readying our house for sale and getting my MX2000 working as it should!

What prompted you to add the grip tape on the brake then Matt - did you have a lot of problems with your foot slipping off?

We have a Trader on here - Custom Pedals - who may be able to help you out with a slightly wider throttle pedal?

Matt, I was thinking about buying the "Heel and Toe" pedals from: http://www.laser-man.co.uk but it seems his page is "suspended".

Sorry the pic is so small, as his site is down, it is the only pic I could find.

So the throttle pedal is wider, aiding H&T'ing.

I will try and get hold of him some how, it is like £40 delivered for a set (rest plate, clutch, brake and either a normal accelerator or a H&T one).

Matt good to hear and see!
You have a link to my Flickr album, so you have all the info what you need to install them, come on

Right, I got those suckers in last night, eventually! :sob:

It honestly took about four and a half hours, quite a bit of swearing and no shortage of percussive reasoning!

A note to @Flacsi , instructions would make your product 100% better. I'm not a skilled mechanic but I have a number of track cars that I prepare and maintain so I'm not completely without competence.

Given the value of my Recaros i was worried about doing something wrong when disassembling them so having some guidance would be so reassuring and save an awful lot of 'figuring out' time!

The mounts seemed to go together when done in a certain order too, even then I had to use plenty of force. And it meant I had to undo and redo a number of steps. The fit wasn't perfect, but I didn't expect that from a low volume, sensibly priced part and the fact that I didn't have to modify anything is testament to a good degree of quality.

The seatbelt stalk but has a captive nut on the oem mount which isn't there on the new mounts. By chance I had a Honda gearknob nut that happened to be the right size otherwise I would be in a bit of a pickle with no driveable car and a trackday tomorrow. At close to zero cost a nut should be included with the kit.

So there are a number of ways the product could be improved, however it does exactly what it needs to.

Getting into the car is far, far easier, you don't have to go up and over the delicate bolster any more, you simply drop in which is great.
Once you're in, the seating position feels normal, which is fantastic given the abnormally high oem position. It really makes a nice difference.

One thing which is a big disappointment is the amount it lowers the seat by. The advert says 6-7cm but there's no way it's that much. See the pictures below but I think the reality is much closer to 2cm. This is really not fair when it promises so much more.

Putting this aside, the mount does enough to make it worthwhile. I would recommend them to anyone with Recaros, just keep in mind the smaller change and fitting might be a bit of a ball ache.

I should also commend @Flacsi 's communication which has been excellent throughout. :grinning:

As standard:

I'm really thrilled with the car now and can't wait for Blyton on Saturday!

I'll be sure to get some video as always! :grimacing:

Great update Matt, yeah that is properly annoying if it only lowers 2cm :worried:

Love those Recaro seats in that trim so much.

Have fun at Blyton you jammy bugger, you'll enjoy the CL5+ brakes

What an awesome thread, it's full of porn! You must be well happy with it all now (apart from the minor niggles!)
It's great that these cars are still so 'customisable'. Really want mine fixed now so I can enjoy it.

Thanks Micah, I'm really pleased with how it's come together, and for sensible money too.

With a mid-box in the exhaust it will be a smashing car for me hopefully.
So pleased I chose this over the Civics or R26s I was also considering. :grinning:
