Mot!!

No way would I ever pay 1k on any car lol. Hmm I could took it down to the Renault specialist down the road there going to have a look at it for me, I can't see any nails in the second tyre, I'm sure they are taking the Mick lol!

That's what I did if you remember mate take it down to them and get them to have a look.don't seem to matter were you take them at the mo so many seem to be failing.can ask my daughters lad to come and have a look if you want he is a MOT tech

I'm thinking of getting cup dampers and getting my cup suspension fitted anyway but need to have a think about it tbh, they are getting a price for me today so once that is sorted I will take it to them and see if it does actually need changing, if it does I will ask them what part I need get part off twingo an then get them to fit it!

It's the tyres that have annoyed me the most lol, stupid nails!!!

Right got it looked at by a Renault specialist and there's no play at all in ball joints?!?!?
So I'm very annoyed as I've been fobbed off lol, but one spring is definatly broken so that's getting sorted and luckily the nails in tyres hadnt punctured the tyre they were just in tread!

Car has passed, got spring changed, took it to a different Kwik fit and they passed it? You reckon I could get my money back?

Thats good news. Reckon you'd be better off cutting your losses with the other garage mate.

I've emailed kwik fit customer services see what they say, i wouldn't be too bothered but being as one kwik fit failed it and another passed it really pee'd me off lol!

No chance if you remember that's what I did and they will say there testers are trained to the highest standard(boloks)

MOTs are a bit crap mate, the one tester might have a different opinion on something to another.

you can complain to VOSA...

Not surprised at all... unless I only take my car to people I have worked with and/or trust..

For future ref anyone can do the following checks (all off the top of my head) before going for an MOT... a full in depth of whats required is here.
http://www.ukmot.com/5-1.asp

.. please excuse anything in the list that might not exist on the clio, I haven't fully got underneath it yet!

easy stuff...

lights
Reg plate bulbs
horn
Wiper blades
Windscreen washers
Windscreen check (no cracks larger than 5p in drivers zone)
Seat belts (must recoil, cannot be frayed etc)
handbrake
tyres (min 1.6mm tread)

Get underneath the rear...

Check exhaust for security and leaks (worn mounts)
Check rear springs (can snap) and seats (if present for cracks)
Bounce the rear, listen for knocks which could be a sign of worn shocks and/or bushes
Check shocks for leaks (obv only any use if not gas)
Check the bushes for wear/cracking/play
Check brake pad thickness (can't remember off top of my head but expect rear brake pads to look low as only low amount of friction material to start with)

jack up the front...

Check for play in front suspension by pulling the front wheel from top to bottom (or get a bar under it and pull up)
Check CV boots all gaitors for splits
Check Drop links for play (use a bar)
Track/tie rod ends for play (use a bar)
Check brake pad material thickness
Push down the car on each wing (be careful where you push), should return quickly, slow return could mean shocks worn.
Lower arm bushes (look for wear/play)

Driving..
Graunching/grinding noises could be..
worn bearings
low brake pads

Graunching/knocking when turning on full lock could be
CV joints worn

Knocks could be
Worn shocks/Springs
Bushes worn (arb etc, drop links)
something stupid rolling round in the boot!
