LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

Can easily reinstate the old thread if that's what you want to do Rich. I can keep it locked and have this as a new thread if you want or merge them? Up too you.

Boys got skills ! Yeah open it mate and merge this on the back of it would be grand. I'll just edit a couple of posts tomorrow and I'm sure it'll all look seamless

Going to Origine RS tomorrow now to put some miles on it, be taking a hugely scenic route to avoid the motorway! So if you see a yellow car driving somewhat erratic, it's because I'll be trying to vary the load & revs ;/

im really happy for you Rich..its finally worked out for you..have a great time and give her some...

That torque figure is pretty impressive considering it's all N/A! Off the top of my head turbo cars like the Corsa VXR and Fiesta ST don't quite have that much unless they're mapped?! I'm impressed with that more than the bhp power figure in fairness and the way it holds power across the revs looks very good too.

yeah the torque is nuts, having now put a couple of hundred miles on today I'm pretty confident to say it will be a little bit quick when I can properly cane it

I don't know what those cars make stock but they wouldn't keep pace, however the trouble with the likes of a VXR or ST is I'm sure once mapped they'd be just as quick, and that's so easy to do. Also I guess to make it a little fairer you'd be talking something with a bigger intercooler and turbo etc - and then at that point I wouldn't see in a straight line which way they went (probably because they sat there trying to get traction :lol2:smile:.

All sorted for you. Now back to one collosal thread

Glad its driving well! Bet it was worth all this hassle to get it and be confident and happy with it now though!

Very well done Rich, truly deserved this outcome! Now that it's back and running we need to organise a blast!! We are leaving for the Alps on the 2nd, are you coming??? hehe

Cheers for that Chris

Yiannis just had 2 weeks off so no chance of any more time off I'm afraid. Also I need to build a degree of confidence back in the car before something like that! Until the big cams and itb's are on, and thus we get a handle on the ignition mapping and egt's, it wont be going near a track either. However apparently it was seeing too much vacuum in mapping, usually implying a restriction (potentially the TB or filter setup), and I think that can aggravate the issue we have. I mean it's never going to be fixed until big ass cams go in, but I'm hoping potentially addressing the TB/Filter might give me just a bit more headroom to at least hoon with confidence. From what I understand is the engine of course is fighting for the air it needs and thus the charge temp goes up and of course has a direct effect of ign mapping and egt's. - Need to do some reading up tbh.

Here's the updated engine spec

Catch tank in, really pleased with my bracket making skills on this one

Got some A4 stainless M6 rod and couplers, used an existing thread off the bulkhead and measured it out. Loctite and extra nuts to secure it all.

Just using -8AN Torques push fit stuff, only needs to be basic for oil. If doing fuel I'd use proper teflon stuff etc. Got a 15mm Green breather on though, as the Mocal lids don't breath for **** and seen people blowing seals when just relying on them.

For the other side I made a bracket up and painted it satin black (this is actually mk1 bracket - I have another literally drying in the sun now which fits a little better but same design).

And attached to this side another -8AN push fit, with 15mm oil hose. It's a perfect fit tbh and just some jubilee clips to keep it secure.

I could have used -8AN hose (which I have) and that wouldn't need a jubilee on the Torques fitting, but -8 has got a slightly smaller bore than stock hose so not ideal. The 15mm seemed to fit over the breather outlet exactly the same as stock and all the connections are nice and snug but without being impossible to remove - which is the situation you have when using -8 hose on -8 push fit fittings. They're typically when used together pressure rated to a working 200psi and 1000psi burst, so once they do go in (with a hell of a lot of force!) they don't come out again. For a low pressure oil breather setup and with bore size taken into account, definitley the hose I've used is the right way to go

And lastly here's the silicone cap for the old return thing

Sweet! Today installation that. We must been using the same rubber cap lol. EBay job?

EDIT. Not today ffs, I meant tidy, blame autocorrection

Yeah think it was, bought 2 sizes iirc as wasn't sure which I'd need but that one is spot on. Bought all the stuff bloody ages ago - literally the catch tank a year ago at Merlin when I did a track day at Combe in Aug 15!

But now the new engines done I felt it imperative to fit and keep the oil out the inlet tract - it just lowers the effective octane and anything that'll help keep knock at bay now

Bit overkill lol.

That hose would be more at home on a jcb for Hydraulics.

I used the original breather hose and a drinks can :d

What do you think of that ecu you have?

I noticed it on efi parts. What software does it come with? Can you change a lot of settings as well as maps?

Cheers guys, yeah for once something I did worked out well! I actually enjoyed doing this so might be the start of me doing my own bits again. Though I think it's only because out in the sun it's nice.... give it a few weeks when it's pissing with rain and windy as feck and I'll be hating it!

Dave, yeah it seems a great ECU. It comes with software (SXtune) so you can change any aspect of the map you like - download it and have a look http://www.scs-delta.co.uk/software . I'd probably base any future car I buy to mod based on the ability to install a standalone as a pre-req, having complete control of ECU is paramount to tuning properly and you just don't get that in anything OEM. I never really intended to mod the Clio when I bought it so wasn't overly aware what was and wasn't out there, but once I started it obviously escalated to the point I needed one, and luckily SC were happy to develop it. For me loosing the dash and half the car functions on a traditional standalone isn't an option when the cars used on street too.
Yes the hose is 'beefy', but it also adds support in it's own right for the tank! Took it for a blast tonight and no knocks or weird noises so it's done the job

Finally got it back on the rollers for a final vetting and check up, happy that it's spot on with fuelling and ignition now. It's got some miles on and the rings are bedded in well, so basically ready to rip finally.

(looks clean - really it's filthy and is probably 6months since I washed it! Though it's been immobile for 4 of those months :tearsofjoy:)

I think this might be the first time I've ever had 2 separate rolling road runs without either losing power or having blown something up between them!!

227/196 :tonguewink:
IMG_0053.jpg

I def need a bigger TB though, be a few horses on the table still if that was done. Took a vacuum feed right after the TB and plotted on the dyno.
IMG_0052.jpg

Basically the line shouldn't drop as it's showing vacuum increasing. Not enough to make me think ITB's straight away, just maybe a couple mm more on the TB/spindle, and massage of the plenum and runners.

Next purchase is a data logger to take the data over CAN from the ECU and have it all logged and displayed, need to hook lambda and fuel pressure up, probably move the oil temp and pressure from the SPA gauge and via the ECU/logger setup.

Aye, it's not bad thanks fellas

Bit more than 220 Trophy power (though not the weird overboost thing that new one has?!) and slightly silly gearing to boot. At the very least anyway it should stay in touch with the modern waft of turbo hatches out there. #allmotorFTW!!
