Locks playing up :(

got this sorted today at the dealers as this morning it was the same agian.

turns out that mark you are right. they are rechargeable.

there are actually 2 batteries in each card.
1 is a replaceable 2025 and the other is a rechargeable 1 buried in the circuits.

the replaceable 1 works the buttons and the rechargeable 1 works the keyless entry.

if you always use the keyless entry an never put the card in the slot(like me) the rechargeable one for the keyless bits will go flat.

it then takes upto 72hrs of driving with the card in the slot to get it fully charged again.

so you must put the card in the slot every now and then while driving to give it a quick charge.
you also must alternate using both cards as they will go flat if just left in the cupboard like mine.

it just so happened that my 2025 batteries were also flat in both cards thats why they werent working.

changed the 2025 batteries in both cards and they both work again.

cost me about £8 for 2 batteries from the dealers, but at least i can lock the car again.

Well that's something I didn't know - I always leave the card in my pocket, as I thought there was no re chargeable battery in them, just as I haven't used my spare since I had the car.

I'll be changing my ways now lol!

Well well theres some thing that they could have told us all when we got the car..

Thanks for passing that on jase, better go hunt out the other key now some where and start using that also since its been almost three years without one being used and the other being charged.. probably explains the key not working the best some times.

well thats strange as there is no mention what so ever in the manual about that !

all it says is replace the card battery every 2 years

if you remove the 2025 battery the keyless system will not work - the car will start as
an induction/tranponder in the card slot "reads" the key card....

will have a word with my renault specialists next time i am near

cheers jase for the info,

will put mine in the slot every now and then for a quick charge, and deffo swap them as well.

i wasn,t told any of this when i brought the car either ?.

what is the card you speek about jase ?

i have noticed a card slot on my dash but i have not seen any card. ? should i have one.

What? I don't understand. Your profile picture shows you having coloured coded door trims, so I presume you dont have a cup? How the frig do you start your car?!

lol,

i have a standard 197 with the cup upgrade fitted. ( best of both worlds ).

i do have the key cards, i just didnt know you can put them in the card slot lol,

But. Went to get in this morning and the doors wouldn't open.
Ended up using emergency key to get in.
But now I have to put card in slot to start it and it won't lock with keyless entry buttons.?

The same thing just happened to me - a good way to test if the card battery is rechargeable in the OEM slot - and - IT IS!

At least those bloody French did one thing right.

Is this right? Can't see how it does as there is no connection points on the card to charge etc? Anyone else heard of this?

Poor french car getting stick.

My car stood for 3 months last year when i was in Africa. Not moved or even started once ( outside in the elements too ).

Got in it first time, the battery wasnt even flat!!! Apart from the stiff rusty brakes at first it drove as new. :tongueout:

thats my thought aswel, you need a conductive (metal) connection for the slot to charge the key card. the key cards all plastic
