Little advice needed - Stud conversion

Evening gents,

I'm looking for a little advice about wheel stud conversions, now I've had a look on here and can see that a limited number of people have carried it out. Firstly I am right in thinking that this is more suitable for track use, and not necessarily that practical for road use?

Also I'm partially a little put off by the fact that I saw something once about the studs snapping/giving way under heavy steering? If anyone can provide there experiences I'd be grateful.

Finally what would I be looking at, something like the following kits:

Cheers!

The only stud conversions I've seen fail are when the they are coupled with bolt on spacers I.e. You basically end up with 10 nuts !!

We've used the screw in stud conversion and 18mm spacers for over a year. Used on track days, timeattack and on the road with no issues. Makes putting the wheels on much easier.

I did go for a very high temperature loctite to hold them in.

Cheers Paul, I don't plan on using bolt on spacers and certainly don't want to end up with 10 nuts!

Can I ask did you use a longer length stud due to the 18mm spacers? What sort of spacers are you running, because that could also be a consideration, especially if you've had no issues.

fitted mine about a year ago. used the clio for approx 14 hours on track this year. when i took off my track wheels and changed back to my road wheels (three weeks ago), a couple of studs (1 or 2 per corner) felt loose. tightened them up again with blue loctite. studs still looked good. no visible issues.

much easier to change wheels and looks cool too.

what i don't understand is, why (on mine) the front ones sit about half a centimeter deeper than the rear ones.

We use a hub centric spacer (bimecc) from ebay.

From memory I think we used a longer stud at the front than the rear. Think it was 90mm front and 82mm rear. This gives roughly the same stud length protruding through the wheel.

I run stud & nuts on my rally cars and some of my road cars without issue.

Buy from a reputable company not ebay.
The above are 10.9 black studs so are well up to the job
Just make sure your nuts are the right angle for your wheels.

If you change wheels a lot, you will never go back.

When fitting, thread 2 nuts up on the stud and tighten the outside one,
This will wind in the studs tight.

Very informative, so thanks for that. I'll have to have a look around see what I can find, any idea on where the best place is to get the studs from? Could well be a similar set up for myself.

That's good to know, inspires some confidence knowing people are running them issue free anyway. Presumably the nuts provided fit the majority of wheels? or are there specialist types dependent on the wheels you are using?

I'll probably get some super strong loctite in there to for good measure!

You loose a few mm on the front stud due to the disk bell, the rears screw into the disk bell.

wonder if that's disk bell dependant, 'cause i know of people who don't have that issue.

These will do what you need also

i got mine from elite-d (68mm long 14X1.5). very easy to install due to the allen key insert.
good company to deal with. had a few questions and they were answered immediately.

I've had my kit fitted for 4 years now, no issues, none have come loose.

I used studs from demon tweeks and Renault sport nuts.
