Lightened flywheels

I have a ATB in my car, it's amazing! Gripper might be better, but it's probably a bit too full on from what I've witnessed from being a passenger in a friends vxr with one fitted, as low speeds it seems too grabby - ideal for a race car with high speeds though! If I were given the choice again, it would be the quaife every time.

that's what I was wanting to hear mate. I'll see how the ATB performes on the track. if it's no good I'll pull it out and get a gripper in there instead.

Uh...write down your impressions on how does it feel to drive with that clutch. :thumbup1:

Post a link on where can it be bought.

yes will give feedback when fitted
can be bought from any AP dealer
Cover part number CP7381-OE80-SF
Plate CP8300-A030 (BUT NOTE PLATE IS FOR SADEV GEAR BOX I THINK STANDARD BOX HAS SPLINE OF 24.5MM COMPARED TO SADEV OF 24MM)

Which gearbox do you have?

Can anybody with a lightened flywheel give us a proper before and after feedback please? All good with the theories but what we miss in here is some real life feedback.

From what I know (in theory again) is that the car revs faster, however the revs drop faster as well for the very same reason. Less mass less inertia. How faster do they drop though? That would also give an enhanced negative effect when driving on uphills as the effect is magnified. Now that might not be a problem for the vast majority of people but for me plays a significant role as I'm doing the Alps every year and the car struggles as it is already!

Also the fuel efficiency is probably negatively affected as well as you'd now need more energy to maintain a certain speed on the motorway, again less inertia so more energy needed to maintain a specific speed.

I really want to fit one of these flywheels, I really do, especially now that I'm dropping my box. However I haven't found any solid information about it which makes me believe that people are trying to justify their purchase by either lightly praising them or by not giving any input at all.

Again, I would massively appreciate any feedback from people who made this mod either on the Clio or on a different car.

I've got the Quaife, engine dynamics light weight flywheel and the 3rd syncro being replaced. Should be back on Saturday so I'll post up in a week or so what they're like.
Drove a 197 with a diff a few months ago the difference is night & day. Can't wait to get the car back.

finally got the 7 1\4 clutch fitted and working,
what a diffrence car rev's far quicker and rev's more motorbike like

downside i would not fit one if you use the car in traffic

Good delivery! Also, that clutch looks like porn to me...Very good quality. Is it an on-off feeling or is it drivable?

excellent news, i'll get mine in when the gearbox comes back from butlers in forfar...

I've had the engine dynamics one in for a week now and I love it! It was a bit tricky to get used to for the first couple of days as I had the clutch replaced too.
Imo this mod is not rated highly enough. The car is noticeably more responsive and has had a larger impact on response than the sprintbooster, 64mm throttle body or the V6 airbox. In saying that I'm keeping those mods on the car

I thought it might be great in the combination with the lightweight crank pulley. :jump1:

there is a little bit of biteing point but not much, dont think it would be much fun stuck in traffic

Sure is mate. When are you doing your flywheel?

TBH, don't know, been very occupied with work and have almost no time for these side projects (custom intake manifold and the lightened flywheel). I'm thinking of buying TTVR's flywheel but it's too heavy 8).
I would like it to weigh <4kg but I will probably end buying it if I'm not done with my flywheel by the end of this year.

Raptor, having purchased a lightweight flywheel and fully enjoying it did you ever design/sell the lightweight flywheels?

Did anyone ever price up a TTV Lite (4.4kg)? Thats almost 2kg off and will not have aa obvious downsides. I commute in mine and do sit in traffic but fancy a lightweight flywheel this year.

Yes,I was thinking about it and even got one used stock flywheel for comparison but never got the time to 3D scan it and make it (was talking to my friend that's a CNC specialist and he said it's was not profitable enough in such small batches with the material that I would like to use).

Instead, we're still doing the lightweight crankshaft pulleys with the new material (24% stiffer and 18% lighter). The "old" ones were great - Ph2 should be awsome.
