I didn't know such a thing existed, so I'm probably not using an impact socket. I'll need to look into that, thanks!

Ryobi claims 400Nm of torque. Found a Milwaukee one that can do 1627nm! Fair bit more expensive though. Maybe I'm getting what I paid for.

You have the same Ryobi as me then. Should be ample surely given that most folk tighten the wheel bolts to 130/140nm?

is the tighthening torque the same as the loosening? some tools have different torque for each direction

Always, always torque torque up the nuts / bolts. If you use a ratchet gun to tighten them, firstly you get the issues you see here and secondly there are likely bigger problems down the line.

I always torque to 140nm. I would have done that after the SLS track day on 2018-09-09.

Always, always torque torque up the nuts / bolts. If you use a ratchet gun to tighten them, firstly you get the issues you see here and secondly there are likely bigger problems down the line.

I do! I use the ratchet gun until the slightest resistance then finish the job with my torque wrench.

Come to think of it, I had ABS sensor problems after the 2018-09-09 track day so the garage I took it to would have had the wheels off. Maybe they chucked them back on with ratchet gun.

That's ridiculous! I'm sure I could patch up the arch liner in a few hours with a sheet of abs plastic at a tenth of the price.

Thanks, I assume you are referring to me overtaking the caterham on the right after the hairpin. That was naughty, but in my defence I kept on getting a "he's going into the pits" vibe from that car You can see me looking into my mirrors straight after to see if he was going into the pits, I don't think he did...

Ah ok lol You had me wondering what kind of light-weight "cup" rear view mirror it would have had originally. Its pretty bare bones as it is.

That may be beyond my plastic fabrication skills. I noticed a crack in the opposite side yesterday, might try repairing it with plastic weld to avoid a repeat of the passenger side.

I successfully replaced the rear parts of the front wheel arch liners yesterday. Was quite a satisfying Sunday job





I tried and failed to track down any second hand parts, so ended up deploying the debit card to order some more new OEM parts. My plan is to get the car sorted as quickly and easily as possible, then see if I can repair and sell on the old parts at my leisure.

I think the near side liner can be plastic welded as it only has a single crack. The offside liner is too far gone for me to fix, but a more experienced/resourceful person might be able to save it by welding on some scraps of PP plastic. I've never plastic welded before so taking the opportunity to learn. I bought a heat gun in preperation, which was also useful for making the plastic more pliable before removal/fitting as they need to bend.






After having issues getting the wheels on and off at the last track day, I took the rear wheels off for a closer look. The bolt holes are looking pretty corroded, which is surprising as the discs were changed only last year. Retapping the threads had limited effect. Not sure what to do here, seems like a waste of money to replace the discs again if the bolts are going just rust out so quickly.



Will be booking the car in for an MOT and service this month. I think I'll try taking it to a renaultsport specialist this time. Possibly Rentec in Edinburgh.
