Heating issues: Fan not turning on

Hi all,

The Clio is having problems overheating due to the secondary fan not coming on.


You wouldn’t realize it in short 10-15 minute trips- it rides fine on the highway, zero issues with the constant flow of air coming in, but slowly but surely in stop and go traffic, the temperature warning goes off.

I’m starting to think I unplugged something accidentally or maybe a fuse? I checked a few fuses but that could still be a problem, too.

Any ideas on where to check first?



These two look plugged in and good to go- anywhere else I’m missing that I should check connector-wise?

Check that this resistor is not rotten inside.

Are these the only two “plugs” to the fan?

Any other ideas guys, feel free…

There is a 50/40 amp fuse for the cooling fan on the front of the battery box and the relay is on the front left side of the battery box look at this thread

I don’t have any needle nose pliers so I wound up doing this.

The fan didn’t come on at all despite the engine fully warmed up and the AC on. I’m this close to taking it to a shop as I don’t do well with electrical stuff.

Here’s also the connector to the fan- it was a bit damp so I spray it with some compressed air and let it sit.
