Fitzys DB 197 track/weekend toy

My mechanic has just let me down, said he's too busy to do my flexi's tomorro. Looking for somewhere to sort it over the weekend now

So good news turns out my flexi weren't blowing, the exhaust clamp had come slightly loose..

Bad news is the precat is rattling and buzzing like crazy..

I wanted to keep the standard manifold and fit an oreca exhaust in future but that might have to change now.

Also on the way home it spluttered a few times on low revs, cleared once above 2500, going to change the plugs in the morning, hopefully that will sort that

So 4 new coils and 4 new plugs and problem is still there. Only happens when hot too.

Anyone got any suggestions? Running out of time before track day Monday

If the precat is damaged that could cause it?
Going to potentially be throwing random lambda sensor readings?

Im thinking it could be this, no fault codes being thrown which is odd..

I have just changed the cam sensor as I had a new one but I haven't had a chance to drive it, not too hopefully though. Will take it for a drive later..

If no joy I'm going to jack it up in the morning and try look into the pre-cat.

Has anyone gutted the pre-cat while still on the car before?

I’ve got a good manifold with cat if you’re interested in swapping with yours with the gutted cat!

So Donington didn't go well.

Misfire had cleared after changing the cam sensor. Drove the 20 mins to Donny from mine without issue.

Weather was looking lovely atmosphere was building and then I went for my sighting laps,

Car lost some power on the back straight, I pulled into the pits and the top end sounded like a group of tap dancers after a crate of redbull .

Luckily my brother in law was there with a flatbed so we dropped my car home on that..

Will have to investigate what's gone wrong, might be time for some engine mods now though...

There was some lovely clios there today too

The rattle may be the pre-cat as you mentioned before, it's probably rattling through the manifold and sounds horrendous. Mine was on the way out and I had a suspicion it was the top end, thankfully turned out to be the pre-cat attempting to breakdance.

Not saying it's that for sure, but fingers crossed!

Just been out for a little investigation, it's definitely something reciprocal, knocking rises and falls perfectly with the revs

Check the flange / runners on the manifold, they're so common to crack, mine were and I thought it was the bottom end (due to the reciprocal noises and the fact sounds are annoying and they bounce around / travel through other things to make your life a pain in the arse).

Ok so this issue is just strange, went out again to examine the manifold, couldn't see anything wrong with my phone torch in the dark.

Said I would start it one more time to see if I could try pin point the noise.. 5 seconds after starting the knock completely disappeared

Took it for a short drive, low revs, low throttle and everything was fine so I said I would give it some beans, pulled like a train all the way to the red line ( I was in the mindset of fu€k it and see!).

Really confused by it all now.. Still going to change the manifold as the pre cat is buzzing :chair::french:

Such a shame as that was probably the best day yesterday I have done at Donington. Mostly good driving standards and evenly matched cars and very few red flags that were quickly dealt with.

Hope you get to the bottom of the problem soon.

So scanned the car this evening, got the p0300 misfire code.

So far it's had;
New plugs
4 new coils
New cam sensor

I'm changing the crank sensor over the weekend, hopefully that will sort it.
Will give it some engine flush and oil change will I'm at it

I've also picked up a second hand toyo manifold for cheap( in really good condition too), that should sort out my pre cat issue, that comes Monday, not sure if I will fit it myself on the drive way yet..
New gasket ordered from RPD.

On a different subject, has anyone got the dimensions of the garmin dash top.. im thinking of using my old phone with the Torque app like below, would like it to blend in though 20211015_180111.jpg

Also took the dash trims off to spray them up, they were a very flat black and I just don't like them..
Will see how they come out and update..

So when the runners came away from the flange on my manifold I had a PO300 (which was multi-cylinder missfire or words of similar description).

It's quite a generic code, just saying "there isn't just 1 missfire...but loads" so it isn't the most useful code unfortunately!
