First mods?

Hey fellas, My Clio has an aftermarket exhaust when I purchased it but otherwise standard. What is the first mod you all recommend? I've seen a few people on here get a remap first. Might take the spare wheel out for some weight reduction..

Depends what you use the car for, and what kind of money you want to spend. There are plenty of little inexpensive things such as badge covers, coloured door badges, interior trim etc. right up to coilovers and engine tuning.

Sorry I should be more specific. The previous owner has put a wrap on the dash trim and I need get that off! Any idea on how without me damaging it. Apart from appearance I'd like to improve the power and get rid of the flat spot.

More power generally means a huge outlay for 20bhp or an engine swap. Unless you plan on spending big, get it running right and rev the nuts off it!

No worries - we're here to guide you through the experience that is Clio ownership! So filter/exhaust are the breathing mods, and if you want it to sound relatively sporty, use a panel filter and exhaust. If you want it to sound like a filthy drunken wench, an induction kit with a cone and exhaust. I did find that when I used the KTEC induction kit, it was definitely down on power, sucking in all that hot air - sounded lovely though.
A remap is very worthwhile from what I've read, and will definitely be getting mine done when I've got the belt change out of the way.

Thanks for advice! The Clio is due a service actually so I can get the filter changed then. Also it may be worth me getting the cambelt done myself as I bought it at auction with no history so might be a safe bet. As far as exhaust goes it looks like it already has one! Take a look. Apart from that I'll be sure to remap!

If you already have a different exhaust a remap should get rid if the flat spot. As said swap the air filter for an ITG, K&N or similar beforehand & that'll help. You won't see massive gains but it'll be better to drive.

Upgrade your panel filter for better breathing, fit some uprated engine mounts to lock the engine in place, get a remap and you're done!

Even i managed this without losing an arm...I am possibly the least mechanically minded person on this forum.

IMO before doing any mods get the car checked over by a specialist or trustworthy garage then fix anything that needs doing. If no history then get belts done and full service. Also service the brakes as these can be a headache if not looked after. If you have crap tyres then I would rather spend the money on good rubber first then go with K&N or ITG panel filter and map. These cars handle pretty well standard and better if Cup pack fitted.

Exhaust is one of the best mods in my opinion you can do.

I love my ktec induction kit. The noise combined with my sports exhaust is what it's all about for me.
I only drive mine hard though not daily!

@LOCKE was spot on with saying good rubber should be top of the list. And good brakes...

no spare wheel in these babies...get the map sensor zip tied..should initially help with the famous kangarooing effect...
you can do all sorts to it..have a look in the "Project thread" section..so much inspiration in there..
