Engine temperature?

Just a quick guide to anyone wanting to change there thermostat.

It's an easy job, the only tool I used was an 8mm ratchet spanner (a normal ring spanner would do). Just remove the intake pipe that runs along the front, the hard plastic one. Then remove the rubber one it attaches to. Once you have removed this pipe there is room to access the 3 bolts holding the housing on.

So the housing pulls off to reveal the thermostat inside? i'm guessing when the housing is removed lots of coolant spills out?

Mine always sits at the same as the temp in the 2nd picture also. Sometimes if it's a cold day and i'm not in traffic and there is sufficient air flow my engine temp is in the middle of 2nd picture and 1st picture temps. If that makes sence. lol

Looks like il be changing my thermostat for the 89c one from the 182, before I go ahead and do it, does anyone know why the 197 came with the 75c.

Is there any reason for it, I assume running a little hotter shouldn't be a problem?

Chrisgti6 I take it yours has been working fine with the different stat in?

Cheers Luke

well if your being a bit picky you run an engine cooler for power and hotter for economy...cannot see it doing any real harm

does it have a 75 stat????

Yep, it's been great, 5 minutes and it's up to the third line and stays there whether sat in traffic or cruising at 70mph

It might be a placebo but it feels like its running better too, maybe a little more urgent and responsive (as well as being nice and warm inside!)

According to ECP it does, if you put a 197 reg in, the thermostat comes up as being 75 degrees, but the 182 is 89.

I have to admit I was suprised when I read 75!

interesting!

anyone had a look at an old stat to see whats on it?

Hi Guys,

Thought I’d post my finding as I’ve just changed my stat. The original one i took out was a 75c one. The new 182 thermostat (89c) on the left and the old 197 one id just taken out in the right.

Really easy to do thanks the quick guide provided by Chrisgti6, managed to find some time at work and do it in my lunch break.

Where the temperature used to be after idle with the old stat.

Where it is now with the new 182 stat fitted.

So all in all was a good fix, if i have any problems with it over the next couple of weeks il report back.

hmmm you got me thinking now mate,RS Tuning fitted a new one for me but never thought to ask which one they'd fitted, had no reason to tbh,but my temp gauge sits the same as yours in the second pic with the 182 stat in

great work....be interesting to see what happens to the mpg figure :s

I have totally forgot about this topic. Some of you guys asked, sorry for no reply.
My engine temperature is now ok, it shows the same temperature as on the previously posted picture. I don't know which termostat was originally in. All I know is that i got genuine Renault based on my VIN no.
Unfortunately, I lost the pictures for DIY..
Cheers to ya' all!

How much is a new thermostat?

Unless the Renault garage messed up when I asked them, it was £16.83 + VAT for the 182 version, less than half the price of one for a 197 around £45+VAT when I asked. I think they must of made a mistake with the price though, can't see why a 197 one would be so much more.

Part number for the 182 thermostat is 82 00 772 985 and it came with a new seal fitted.

The temperature on mine 2010 RS 200 sits at the same position from new as yours in the second picture, so probably somebody changed the thermostat in your care before for a low temperature (75°C) one?

According to Renault, the 75°c one is correct for my car mate. It has a different part number to the 182 variant, so I think it's the original. Not sure about the RS 200 though, could have the 89°c from standard.
