Engine temperature?

Vladimir couldn't supply a picture of how it sits now could you?

Did you notice the limiter kicking in early when it was playing up?

Mines sitting like the second pic now and I'm sure the limiter is kicking in loads earlier. Renault replaced the clocks but its still the same .....what do thy know hey.

After warmed up mine sits on the second bar and rarely moves, early limiter only kicks in when engine has not fully warmed up.

Mines kicked in after about 15 mins which shocked me as I thought it had warmed up fully.

Where does your gear change light come on?

Vlad i think you should do a "how to" on changing the thermostat. might be useful to other members

my limiter was kicking in early when my thermostat was knackered mate, realised this when the car was on the rolling road and had a nightmare trying to do power runs as we had to wait for the car to warm up all the time

i recon mine still takes a good 10 minutes on a morning though before its up to full temp and i can reach peak revs even with the new stat

I'm interested in the outcome of this, as I posted a thread about exactly the same a while ago.

Car still sits at the same temperature with or without the climate on, just on the first line (same as the first picture). Even with the climate/AC on I wouldn’t think it should change the engine temperature, as no water should be flowing through the rad until it’s up to temp anyway, might be wrong though.

if the ac/climate is on then the engine cooling fan is on low speed to pull air through the condenser which happens to be in front of the radiaitor - so it will to a small extent influence engine temperature

I see what you mean, so does the radiator constantly have a flow of water through it? Does the volume just increase when the correct temperature is met via the stat? or do you mean cooling by simply blowing cold air into the engine bay.

Sorry to be a pain mate, just trying to weigh up whether its worth changing the stat or not? Renault just quoted me £50 for the stat and seal, so if it not needed id rather not that all.

it will to some extent "over-cool" the engine - ie engine fan pulling extra air in to the engine bay especially when stationary

the stat will stop/start the coolant flow when at temperature ie try to maintain around 88c - thats its job

the temp guage only gives a rough idea of what the temperaure is - if the stat is faulty/broken the engine will struggle to attain normal running temperature quickly....if at all!

I was having this problem too. I put a 182 thermostat in yesterday and it sits perfect now (and gets nice and warm inside). I believe the original thermostat is only a 75 degree stat, the 182 I've put in is an 89 degree.

I'm not sure why you'd taken so much of it apart when you changed yours, I managed mine in about 10 minutes, only the air inlet pipe has to come off, nothing more. I should have done a guide really!

Think il give that a go to and get mine changed, can I ask where you got your thermostat from and how much?

Cheers Luke

Mine sits at the 1st mark when driving, if i let it idle for a while it will move up but then drops back down when moving.
I got quoted £40 for a thermostat fitted at a Renault specialist - was your £50 price fitted Luke?

No mate, that price was just for the thermostat and new seal from Renault Parts. £40 seems pretty good fitted, even if I brought the thermostat id probably need another £12 for 5L of Type D coolant to fill it back up with, so that price is good.

I got the stat from eurocarparts, it was about £5. Then 5l of type d coolant from Renault was £12.40.

I will put a genuine Renault thermostat in there at some point but I didn't want to fork out on one until I knew it was that at fault.

i wouldnt worry probably the only difference between that and a renault one is the box with renault wrote on!!
