Cooling anyone tried a different stat

Hi
I'm new to this Renault stuff, a Ford man through and through. I have just got myself a Clio 200 Cup for my daily driver, while my 400 bhp Focus RS hibernates.

Anyway I am really impressed with this little car but I have a few questions.

I have searched through the relevant threads, but thought I would start another one regarding the running temps on the Clio 200.

When I got the car I thought it was running cold so the dealer replaced the stat, which didn't really make any difference. Car runs between the 2nd and 3rd mark and on the OBD diagnostics the 1st mark seems to be 75 deg and the 2nd 80 deg. When sat still the car seems to maintain 80deg when driving normally it is reading about 77 average.

In all my years of car ownership normal temperature should be about 90deg.

I spoke to someone at KTech and they were possibly looking at a different stat!

Has anyone else been down this route? I would of thought the temp gauge should run in the middle, which would I think would give about 85-87 at OBD.

Anyone sat with the standard stat in boiling water and seen what temp it opens at?

Is this one of the reasons the fuel economy is pants, my Focus RS does the same with twice the power and twice the weight.

it should be on a third mark on a temperature display. it sits on a third mark for practicly all the time when its warmed up.

Standard stat temp is 75. This is what the car is built with so I just stuck with it. When on track the temp will rise to the middle of the gauge nicely.

when i was getting my car mapped at RS tuning recently my car wouldn't hold its temp which in turn caused no issues but took alot longer to map as when doing power runs the car would hit its cold limit early so had to wait a good while for the car to warm up before it would run full power (i.e red line),paul said my stat was shagged so we replaced it,for me i've not noticed to much difference in the length of time i have to wait until full revs but my temp gauge has moved round to the middle where people say it should be,(3rd notch i think),stat was only £15 and a doddle to fit so worth it for piece of mind.
