conclusive panel filter topic

Ive been reading for about an hour on past panel filter threads and there is so many. From what i can tell people are still undecided or wanted to get a different brand after having one for a while.
main contenders:

ITG
Ktec
Pipercross

is this a question which will never be answered?

I did have an ITG. Was good but recently upgraded to induction kit. Think the main thing with panel filters is they last allot longer than the paper ones, so can work out cheaper as there is no need to replace them.

K&N for me. Durable. Wash and reuse.
I know you can reuse the others, but the foam gets a bit messy on the other I found. K&n lasts

ITG for me, it's great, and you'll find its got a much better build quality, the k-tecs are cheaper but seem to have rubber bleed onto the foam, on the ones I've seen anyway.

Mine had an itg in when I bought it, it looked so scruffy and dirty but after a good clean it looked as good as new iv no idea how long it's been in but it looked like a long time sounds pretty nice too

Hi Just make sure you clean it regularly unlike the paper elements in say a PALL air filter these have filter paper to about 30um which is really catches really small particles. The K&Ns have impregnated cotton which is good for say 50um but they get so filthy because they are covered in thin oil or rather they should be!! They were intended to be used on the track but someone must have thought they could make a quick buck and sold them to the public. So to get the best out of them you must clean them restricting airflow is not a good idea especally when your pulling x kgs/sec3 (mass flow) at high revs. K&N and piper do have the old cleaning kits and piper use a foam element (not too sure about those) just for the record I never used any on my old mini cooper just straight through twin SUs !! but then again it was cleaned every time I went out!! Best option if you not intending to be spanner monkey is to use the standard box with a K&N this should knock out quite a bit of road dirt before the filter is being used so you get the best of both worlds. Plus it will slow down the air flow. Air flow above 55mph starts to heat up !! check it out on the web! its always a balancing act. hope it was helpful.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks for all your feed back  I will wait to the right time to decide on what is best, seems ITG wins for the clio. Hopefully no one will start any more filter threads and this helps everyone.

I had both ITG and Pipercross. There was no difference in quality yet the ITG was quite a bit more expensive so I'd recommend the Pipercross as it does the same job but is cheaper.
