Clio 200 'cup chassis' vs Clio 200 Cup Insurance

Hi Guys,

Apologies if this is seen as a daft question.

I have just bought a standard clio 200 with the 'cup chassis' option ticked as opposed to the clio 200 cup. When insuring the car should I detail it as a standard clio 200 or a 200 cup? The reason I ask is I can imagine trying to explain the difference incredibly difficult if I ever tried to make a claim/get the full value of my car back if (god forbid) anything happened to it.

Cheers,

Chris

Wouldn't worry about it. You'll be giving them the registration number so they'll be insuring that car.

Some are funny some aren't, someone like aviva don't care provided it's an option ticked at date of manufacturer, where as direct line class it as a modification.

Just check.

I would certainly recommend letting the insurers know. Something like that won't alter your premium with a specialist insurer, but if you don't declare it & then make a claim - what is the point in risking the policy being void?

If you need any help insuring it then feel free to get in touch!

As someone else said above, most insurers ask for number plate in which case you are covered. If you don't give the reg and just give the make and model and enter the wrong model then you'd possibly have a hard time in a claim. It shouldn't ever cause too many issues because it's all factory fit, that being said some insurers declare factory fit options as modifications.

As Dan said, probably worth making double sure they know, getting them to confirm your car model from the reg etc....not that there is ever going to be much between a cup and non-cup but for a 30 second chat you may aswell.

Cheers. Stated that is was a standard 200 with a cup chassis and not a 200 cup, they were of the opinion that meant it was classed as a standard 200. Just thought it was best to ask in case anyone on here has been through this before!

Picking it up tomorrow, will upload pics shortly!

Been trying to add to this thread for weeks but it hasn't worked?! - Turns out that the they have the liberty to consider any optional extras (including those chosen at the time of the original purchase and factory fitted by Renault) as a full blown modification, so I stated it had the cup optional extra (AGAIN) to which they said after much discussion with superiors "well then that must be noted as a modification on your policy and cross checked with our underwriters". The premium didn't change but my insurance was effectively 'void' in their eyes before I had ended up triple checking with them, despite me making it extremely clear it had the optional extra the first time I spoke with them!

A note to watch out for as well, some insurance companies system's can't distinguish between 197s and 200s based on registrations alone. My reg returned a 197 on their system when in fact it is a 200, based on the issues I have had so far I have a horrible suspicion that if I had gone ahead with with my policy stating it was a 197 then I wouldn't have been covered?!

All in all, a massive pain in the arse.

Yep like i said its always best to check, i'm with aviva and provided its a factory fit at the time of order they couldn't care less.

I was with privilege before and they wanted to know everything despite it being factory fit, right down to black centre caps! then after 4 years with them they wrote to me and said my premium wasn't going up but would at the next policy but with immediate affect my £150 excess was going to £750 excess due to the cup spoiler.

Went on the net and got a new policy with aviva which was the same price and cover as before and then rung privilege and cancelled my policy.
