Car just cut out??

Right i was on a bypass at about 75mph and my 197 clio just cut out and said select neutral. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and the car would not start, turned over ok but no joy. It says steering not locked which i think is just for security reasons. I had to fit a new battery as the cells where fooked but still had no joy so its gone to a french car specialist now. I have seen a few people saying they had a similar issue and it was the fuel pump, which i couldnt hear click. I should find out today what the mechanic has found. Just thought id post it up so you guys can post up comments and i will update when the issue is solved and what it was.

If it turns out to be the pump how hard is it to remove the pump (is it located under the rear seat?) And how hard is it to fit a walbro 255 pump as i maybe looking at future mods.

Sorted now, turned out to be the crank sensor not the cam position sensor. Work carried out at frenchcars ltd, very good service and friendly guy.
Work carried out- investigate non starting, scan for error codes fault with crank sensor. Replace this, re-scan ecu and reset. Test all fine.
Total cost was £130 which i think was pretty reasonable. Will be taking the clio there in future.

Glad its all sorted buddy, my first instinct reading your first post was Fuel Pump as mine just died on me like that. RAC diagnosed it for me at the road side, Renault then proceeded to cock me about for a week to fix it

thats a new one for a crank sensor, must have totally went, as normally a dodgey crank sensor causes non starting issues and cutting out while coasting to a stop. glads its sorted.

If i didnt look at the dials i wouldnt have noticed it cut out, was really safe to get it to the side of the bypass. The garage had it for two days, and they specialise in french cars, and dont charge as much as renault haha.
Im glad to have her back.
