Boomy exhaust

Ok chaps and chappets

Just fitted ktec's cat back, is it supposed to be so bloomin loud?? So boomy in the cab.

I never pasted the joints though could this be the culprit? Thought I had some but it was too old to use and was lumpy as feck

I thought exactly the same a couple of months ago, it certainly is for a resonated system although i have learned to deal with it

It's not overly loud, I fitted it at my dads and he was kicking up hell the time I've finished and disturbing the neighbours prior to starting it up but he thought it was fine, it's just inside it seems a bit droney.

Yeah although you dont really have to if its a tight fit, when i fitted mine it was vibrating against the funnels and giving the impression tht the exhaust was louder might be worth a check

Thing is some sections were right and some weren't, the joint from back box to u pipe that goes over back axle wasn't tight at all and that's where it sounds boomy, also the cat slipped into centre section wasn't as tight as I expected, I'm gonna get under it this weekend, it's not crazy loud outside the car, it sounds like it's resonating inside.

I don't mind a loud raspy note, that's what I heard a lot of on vids, not that it's an ideal way to judge but this is eardrum rattling drone

A blowing exhaust unless really bad isnt going to transform it in to a quieter system. Stick your hand around the joints (before it gets hot!) and you'll feel if it's blowing. Alternatively wait a week and you'll see if there is any carbon forming around the joint also.

See....the joint I'm talking of was very loose, not a tight fit at all and it's a new batch of systems, i had to wait for it!

Wasn't a neat fit, just slid in and when I clamped it you could see it pull in, enough for me to think that's unusual.

And to be fair it's pre back box so if it's blowing it could sound pretty loud no?

yeah, i dont think it'll make much difference unless really bad. mines blowing a bit on the same joint, will be fixed in the changes. I've had lots of exhausts and various leaks over the years, dont find the leaks tend to create a boomy resonance though at all. Take your diffuser off and drive around and see, as I mentioned in the other thread on mine it made a massive difference to the boomyness inside. For 4 bolts and a few clips it's 10mins work.

It's definitely leaking, i separated all the joints, sealed them, no resonating in the cabin at all, couple of days later and it's doing it again, it's beginning to bug me now lol!! Know what you mean about the defuser and I remember you saying about it before, sure the heat shield doesn't help....i don't think it's ended the same with an aftermarket exhaust, it's a distance away from any heat, possibly heat reflective tape would be sufficient?

Get some sound deadening sheets from a car audio specialist (dynamat type stuff) stick it under the boot carpet against the bare metal.

as a test get some roof insulation cut it to the size of the boot and fit it under the boot carpet. this will make a slight difference for basically not much money

Sorry just seen your reply, tried this to some degree, heat wrapping the cans is an attempt in gonna try, mixed reviews I'm sure but I've done so before with some luck in the past, tightly wrapped does stop the metal from resonating to some degree, it's ear shattering at the moment, maybe a little
More time taken by dyno matting the boot will help more also[emoji378][emoji378][emoji378]

Don't get me wrong it's nice, I like the sheer volume of noise but it does get tiresome, full indiction setup add to the noise decibels too lol, back to stock panel filter soon also...: new ktec indiction up for grabs soon if that's your thing???
