Benno's UR197 & Meg 250

No real updates of late, been a quiet few weeks working away to get some money put away for after Christmas! Saw a little post on Facebook earlier about before and after photos though, which made me think about how far I've come in the 7 months of having it!

Might not look like much, but it looks and feels so much better since I bought it...I've read a few to do lists so may as well get my own on the go!

To Do:

- Rectify oil leak, rocker gasket likely suspect,
- Brake check, they feel imbalanced and twitchy on the front end on initial bite, poss DS2500s, fluid change and braided hoses,
- Cambelt service homework to be completed, jury is out on whether another trip to Andy at Engine Dynamics is worth it, will all come down to the difference of a local price,
- Gearbox refurb will have to be done before a big track day unfortunately....,
- Exhaust knocking on the diffuser (I think), needs tightening/adjusting/playing with,
- Spoiler on the cards, not a big priority though,
- 200 wheels refurbed and resprayed, colour tbc...,
- Sparco wheels touched up on the edges,
- Powerflex mounts,
- Aesthetic touches, front grilles to be painted, Renault Sport sun strip, thinking gloss black mirrors and side strips too, carbon spats...hmm...

So many more ideas, just cash flow to think about, not getting too silly all at once, especially with the 25th of December right around the corner...might hold off any mech work until Jan and get it in for the gearbox, cambelt and oil leak (plus any other brake/exhaust work that may need doing) at once...

Looking good to me mate! Subtle touches are what’s needed as car looks pretty good from the factory.

Looks like you’re in it for the long haul with that mech list. Good to hear

Certainly got your work cut out for you, but hopefully it’ll all be resolved soon!

I saw your post on FB and it may not look like much but it’s the subtle changes

Cheers boys, yeah unless something drastic happens it's staying! Certainly not going to be a cheap bill by any means but it'll all be worth it come the day I drive it back out the garage!

Of course instead of doing the gearbox and cambelt I COULD get the engine swapped out...but we'll see what funds are like in January..

It'll be going that way if I have the money! Looked into supercharging and it's just not right for the mileage on the car..

Just read through your entire thread. Good work on the car so far & some interesting plans. Look forward to seeing the car at Christmas meal & following your progress on here.

Thanks John, how are you getting on with the Cooksports? Still enjoying them? Half tempted to pop down for a visit if things get a little more serious in terms of power!

Yes I like the springs. Haven't driven the Clio much for a couple of weeks as I've been choked with a cold so been staying in. I was very impressed with their service too.

Ah, know the feeling, lot of it going round at the moment. Get well soon!

Me or John?

If me, B14s are in the back of my mind, the way the car sits on them is just brilliant!

Cheers. No plans to upgrade to coilovers. I'm not sure I would get much benefit from adjustable suspension as I don't really have the knowledge to set it up. I'm not really fast enough on track that I think it'd make enough difference. I might change my mind in the future though.

Cheers. If you're thinking of going to Cooksport they are now UK agents for AST. Top shocks!

sure you would see benefits on track..less bodyroll always helps..im not very clued up on its set up but even the basic one is better than standard..:thumb:

You really don't need much knowledge to set up coilovers (height adjustable at least). Just lower it equally across the axis's and make sure that the car has rake (which is front slightly lower).

Looks great as ever Benno - the Ds2500s are a great pad!

Yeah, I'm just thinking that with adjusting the damping, rebound etc. there's so much potential to norse it up!
