Belgian Nimbus Clio 197

Hello everyone

I'm from Belgium and I recently bought a 197, after having had the mk1 and mk2 Seat Leon FR.
I got into Clio's through a good friend of mine, he's got a Williams, GT Turbo, GT Turbo2, Clio 197, Clio RS Ragnotti, Clio V6 mk2 and last but not least he drives rally in a Clio R3 Maxi.

Because I work for a car testing website www.hothatch.be , I had the chance to test almost every hot hatch available and the Clio still is one of my alltime favourites.

I own a small shop specialised in aftermarket LEDs and HID xenon systems and due to the fact that practically everything of my products works in a Renault, my 197 will become my demo car.

Stats of the car:
- Nimbus grey
- 49000 km or about 31000 miles
- Options include Lux Pack with automatic lights, aircon, wipers. Previous owner also fitted a Parrot kit.
- aftermarket K&N airbox
- removed back seat (I don't know what you guys call that, utilitary vehicle?)

To do:
- lighting: led side markers, HID 6000K kit, all interior and exterior lighting will be replaced where possible by leds
- Team Dynamics Pro Race wheels repainted in red
- red mirror caps
- looking for a good set of stock 2nd hand Recaro's

First pics of the car:

The car looks good. I like what you have done with the rear space, most people just remove the seats and leave it but i like the added carpet and borders!

Ook welkom hier.
Er zit hier al iemand op het forum(ook een belg)met rode wielen op zijn clio.
Dan toch geen roze:tongueout:

Welcome to the site. Looks great in the back, good job. I have seen this done before on here, I think it was someone in France.

Is it right that the Tax or something is a lot cheaper if the vehicle is classed as a goods vehicle? I suppose it has to be inspected as it has been a conversion as opposed to being like that from the factory?

You need to fit some projector style headlights to it, will look great when you fit the xenons. Will be interesting to see the car when you have changed the lights, keep us updated.

Rear does look lovely!! Did you say it had to be carpeted and finished like that by law?

Exactly, by removing the backseat, the taxes are a lot cheaper. In Belgium, you have 2 different car taxes: a tax called BIV that you pay once when you purchase the car and the anual road tax.

If I left the backseat in, the BIV would've been 1800 EUR and the road tax 370 EUR / year. With the backseat removed, the BIV of 1800 EUR is 0 EUR and the road tax 85 EUR / year.

The conversion costed me about 900 EUR. Renault Belgium has to give permission for this (which they did) in order to get a new homologation for your car. Therefore, there is only 1 company in Belgium assigned by Renault to do these conversions...

Little update: I removed the K&N air intake and replaced it by the original one. I'm not planning on installing it back after the MOT, so I'm going to put it up for sale for € 50
