200T Lacks Power after Panel Filter

Hey all, haven't been on here in ages and well since last time I have now got a lovely white 200T

Anyway question being I have now run it in and got a K-Tec panel filter in all working well although last few nights it seems to be almost continually venting on acceleration (gentle) and then feels like it lacked any form of power up high

Replace for standard and car seems to come back to life... Any ideas why? Surely the panel filter should improve it not be a bad thing

IMHO I would be leaving the K&N off given that its having such a negative effect. However i am surprised its such a marked difference between the two.

If it's a panel filter, it shouldn't make any difference at all.

Perhaps AFR?
Perhaps Placebo?

My old turbo used to fart with a panel filter in. Turns out once I replaced it with a variable recirc valve, it went away completely.

Can happen, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. My Focus RS ran 400 bhp on a stock panel filter, in a Mountune box, car felt more responsive on a paper element than a K&N.

Back to the original post, I have the KTR panel in my 200T, it's running 231bhp with an RS tuning map and 250ftlb

I spoke to them this morning and they are taking it back to investigate further and replace if necessary.

Not a placebo effect that's for sure as luckily I have the RS Monitor to back up the feelings in the car so same road same gear and same speed to set off from, completed back to back

3rd Gear 40 mph and foot flat to the floor

K-Tec read only 146bho
Std read 198bho

Shall see what they say

Ecu holding back due to increase in air flow I'm guessing

How old is that car?

I have the same filter in my 63 plate and it goes well

try putting in 99 octane fuel as Ashton says it could be pinking due to extra air
and retarding the ignition

Always runs on high octane never anything less and its a month old 64 plate.

Normal filter back in and running sweet

Move never been a fan of after market filters
I ran a 343 bhp escort
rs turbo many years ago
on a standard airfilter and it ran ok but every time I stuck on a k & n it melted Pistons
just leave the standard on your 200t as they are only 2.32 from eurocar parts and at that price you could put on one a month and still save money

Ok so it's not the panel filter after all! Once the car gets warm it drops down, the warmer it gets the lower the bhp gets!

Now have a recorder route showing the power drop. Renault are now fully confused!

is your intercooler blocked up with something
as boost temps go up bhp comes down
if you plug in a obd scanner and look at cooler temps they should never go over 30 degree centigrade
30 to 50 your loosing power
50 to 80 your slow as hell
80 and above your in piston melting territory

It has the RS monitor so you can check inlet temps.

Oh and your car is broken
