200 Cup Rack onto 197?

Guys,

Currently looking at replacing my steering rack.

My clio is a FF 197, is it possible to fit a 200 Cup Rack without issue?

Thanks,
JAM.

Really? That's strange..

I would expect the 200 cup to be more expensive. 197 cup, 197 non cup and 200 non cup are the same. 200 cup is slightly faster (precious little 7.5%)
I've got the 200 cup if that helps

Yeah the pricing confused me. Ok thanks mate, I think I'll order one and get it swapped.

Alright mate, that's definitely right, I'm selling my clio and have all my receipts here in front of me, I've done the 200cup rack thing and yes it's cheaper, bought mine from fish brothers renault and I too was surprised by the cheaper price difference, they are identical, it's just the rack and pinion ratio that's different inside so when you turn your steering wheel, it turns the rack that little bit quicker.

I will say though, I'd only do this if your current rack is tired, mines was and the front end was coming apart due to a knackered manifold so the subframe was coming off anyway so it made sense as the old rack was knocking.

Apart from the new rack being (new) there's no real notable difference, maybe I'm just used to it though.

The price benefit is just a bonus, mine came on order from France, don't know if that was part reason for price

I'm going to be doing this soon. Where did you get it fitted and how much did it cost to fit if you don't mind me asking?

I'm in scotland, rentec in edinburgh, the guys are spot on and I got a lot of other things done, subframe off, manifold fitted, rack fitted, braided hoses fitted, new handbrake cables, free'd off rear caliper, brake fluid change, tracking done, new steering column joint inside car fitted and supplied that was £100+ for the part, exhaust clamps changed etc, the lot came to 700 notes, there was other stuff done but I can't remember off the top of my head, I think a proper specialist would do it between 200-300 I may be wrong, If you're in Scotland is highly recommend calling and asking for Brian

That's no way near as bad as I thought it would be tbh.
Will be going to a specialist as the renault dealership near me doesn't want to do it haha.
I've heard good things about rentec, but I'm in East Midlands so it would be a bit out of the way I'm afraid.
cheers

i had a cup rack fitted to my previous 197 couple of years back. straight fit. the only issue i had was the inside of the rim rubbed against the wishbone on full lock left and right.
i could never figure out how it happened because the sizes of the parts are identical. nevertheless 16mm h&R spacer sorted that problem.

Been thinking about this, maybe subframe position or rack position on the subframe? Or possibly too much toe out resulting In the hubs turning too far on the inside turn? They are identical in size so I can't see it being anything else, mines never touched at all with no spacers

I had it tracked so no issues with toe. It scrapped do badly that it ripped the inside of the rim paint off completely. I sold the car with the spacers.

lol, no bother mate. I think on a whole these should fit without any troubles, certainly think jam should go for the cup rack at the lesser cost, it fitted with my 197 without any issue what so ever, i do know that if your flexi brake hoses aren't fitted as they're meant to be they can rub on inner rim, something to look out for.

Cup rack is the only way to go. Getting into a non cup car makes it seem like the power steering doesn't work. Lol
