RS200 Track Car

Here’s my new-to-me 2011 Clio RS200. Picked it up recently with a view to enjoying it on track.

It’s completely standard for now, apart from some Ferodo brake pads and uprated fluid. It came with a decent service history, although there’s no record of the belts being replaced, so they’re at the top of the list to get done. The previous owner before the one I bought it from was a mechanic, and I’m told he did them, but with no proof, it’s not something I want to take a chance on considering its intended use!

I’m going to give it a service and make sure to get some decent oil in it. Upon delivery, it had a strange beeping noise coming from the engine bay. Turns out it’s coming from the PCV valve (a new one on me!). It only does it when cold. I had intended to just replace it, but the part isn’t available until August so I’ll have a go at cleaning it.

I also found that one of the coil packs was loose, and when I took it out, I found some water around the spark plug. I know it’s common for these to leak rainwater past the washer jets, and for the washer jet hoses to disintegrate from engine heat. Water then pools on top of the engine. It looks like mine is the former, so I’ll get that sealed up and replace the coil pack and plugs.

Someone’s had the wiper arms off at some point and didn’t put them back on correctly, as they’re hitting each other, so I need to sort that. Plus I want to have a look at the drains under the scuttle panel. Don’t want them clogging and ultimately and drowning the wiper motor.

Will likely replace the front discs. They look like they could do with a freshen up. Will see what the pads are like.

The plan is to make sure it’s mechanically sound and get out for the July trackday in Mondello Park. Once that goes well, the stripping and mods will begin.

I’m new to the RS world, so any tips or pointers welcome!

Looks like a nice example. There are a few track-oriented cars on here for inspiration, you can't go wrong with good coilovers and uprated engine/gearbox mounts to tighten things up. Then you're looking at engine mods, depending on how far you want to go.

Cheers, yep been looking through some of the build threads alright. Will likely stay standard power and focus on handling with this one.

Welcome and enjoy it! I see you already been greeted with the typical baguette common problems. :tearsofjoy:

Thanks. Let’s hope I get to experience the common fun factor of the baguette too

Best of luck with it! There's tonnes of threads on here and info for basically everything you'll need!
On a side note, is this in ireland? I think I recognize the recovery truck logo but it's a bit blurry

Yep. I’m in Ireland. Recovery truck is Prestige Car Transport.

Ronan actually messaged me about your car just after I had bought this. Will say hello at the next trackday.

Yeah I thought that was him alright!
Ah nice yeah he was saying someone had bought/was looking alright. Good to see another one then down at mondello soon enough! I'll be keeping my eye out for a full race spec one but nice ones don't pop up too often, I'll happily use mine until then.
