PCD Adapter Plates/Spacers Good or Bad? Affect the Car?

Hi all,

A question as I'm looking at new wheels but feel limited by the 5x108 PCD.

Has anyone had any experience with the PCD adapter plates to fit different wheels? if so where they good? why/why not? any negative affect to the car?

in my head they seem no different to normal hubcentric spacers just with a different PCD but want to be sure before I throw money at the adapters and new wheels.

the link is just for example i have been quoted on custom pairs of 15mm for fronts and 20mm for rears. these seem like okay spacing as long as i get slightly higher ET so my wheels aren't half a mile out each side

I’ve only seen extreme pcd adapters being used on VW Camper vans..
as for a hot hatch I’m not sure as I can see the advantage but not sure as to why..
you can get plenty of wheels in 5x108 without blowing the bank... surely the expenseof pcd adapters added onto the wheels can’t make it much cheaper than just getting the correct size ?

Think I might just be a bit too picky, as I was looking at some pro race 1.2s but seeing them on every other ST put me off getting a set.
I'd never even heard about PDC adapters till I saw them on ebay, so I wanted to know what people who know more than me have to say about them :tearsofjoy: but if they are only being used on campers and transporters think I will give them a miss and go back to browsing around

Yeah I can see your point.. sadly there’s not many alloys out there that someone doesn’t have or already used
I’ve got a set of TD 1.2s and every Clio and BMW I now see is sporting them.

I've ran them before on cars (when I was into Dubs when younger).
They are generally fine, no different to bolt on spacers, but like bolt on spacers, you need to buy good quality (read: good quality threads that the wheels will then bolt to).

There are some PCDs that will clash, so again something to take into account (people have made adapters that overcome this, but i've never tried them and a bit sceptical of the designs).

Just remember to workout the offset with the width of the adapter before purchasing, as they generally are thicker (to allow the bolt head to be covered, again like bolt on spacers mainly being 20mm+).

was quoted £130 or somewhere around their for two pairs of spacers 20mm for the rear and 15mm for the front (smallest he said he could do) going from 5x108 to 5x114.3. Quality was my main worry regarding affect on the car and the possibly of a car going one way and a wheel deciding it wants to go the other and having a very sudden one of a kind three wheeler Clio.

I don't suppose i can ask for a one-off PCD from the manufacturer without getting my trousers pulled down over the price?

Like I mentioned before, PCD adapters are no different from bolt on spacers, so if that happens to you, you'd be very unfortunate.

Most PCDs will be available, unless you get something that was so specific.

Most 5x? to 5x? is quite easily done, as they fit in the space, it's when you go 4x? to 5x? there can be overlap, so this is where it gets tricky / costs escalate.

Not sure how expensive or and option for you but I have heard rumours or plans that someone’s changed the overall hub to that of 4x100 as there’s more choice in that format.
As Suraj has mentioned it’s only like a hub centric spacer but with a different bolt size so in effect wouldn’t be no different to a spacer however quality should be at the forefront.

Another strange reason as to why is that you’d need to get alloys presuming if stayin 7.5j the offset remaining quite near OEM of 68 as mentioned they’ll stick out otherwise and most 114 studs have lower / shorter offsets. Still staggers most as to why Renault but the offset so high in the clios

My head in the clouds idea was seeing if there was a way to get the mk4 hubs on the mk3 but beyond just typing the words that's all I know. no idea if it is actually possible. the 4x100 idea sounds interesting any idea where you heard it?

either way I'm wanting to go 8J for that little bit of extra rubber

10mm spacer on front, 10mm axle spacer on the rear and get some cup racer speedlines

it came in to conversation with a friend but doubt it went any further.. Would be really
Not feasible

Yes as Beany said, the offset will be the biggest killer, as most cars don't have high offsets like MK3 Clio wheels do, they normally have ET20-40 range (Porsche are known to have ET60+) so if you got a ET40 wheel with a 20mm spacer will make it an ET20, which on a 7.5inch wheel would stick out loads (48mm more than standard wheels).

I assume 4x100 is from the non-RS clios? But they use totally different hub design don't they?

cup racer speedlines are the most likely option as I do like the "OEM" look

I quite like the Calibre Suzuka wheels and they are pretty cheap, don't know the weight of them:

You'd be just better off buying the wheels you want in 5x108.
I've looked into it before about converting to 4x108 as there's shed loads of Ford lads selling cheap second hand wheels.

As above though, offset is going to be your killer.
