Trackspec Clio 197

So the car was mapped yesterday with Chris at EFI. He had to unlock the ECU at the start as it had been locked by Paul at RST but once that was done we were able to get things moving.

We had a few minor issues with one of the OE jubilee clips on the throttle body hose failing and blowing off and it started suffering with a misfire at high RPM which was down to dodgy pencil coils. Thankfully we were able to swap the coils out from a parked up Megane 250 and used those which cured the issue.

NOTE to everyone! These coils were brand new Valeo ones (green caps). Chris has seen the same issues with these a few times so avoid buying these if you can.

The car pulled some strong figures over 300 bhp & torque however the intercooler is not man enough for the job. It could not maintain consistent temperatures during the 13second runs. We would like to have seen anywhere between 20-30deg c however it was getting to circa 40deg c on 2 consecutive runs. This really hampered the results especially when the boost pressure was increased to 1.4bar. Despite this we were really pleased with the result and the car feels even more urgent and aggressive than before.

Here’s the graph:

Few more pics. One with my mate Edd looking forward to a spin later.

I’ve ordered a brand new set of genuine pencil coils and will be upgrading the intercooler to either a Proalloy or Airtec shortly.

Funnily enough I had some brand new green coils and had a misfire issue when I first built up, the misfire I had was at idle. Swapped loads of things that were used thinking no way it could be coils!! But it was these green valeo coils.

Chris also mapped my clio and will be going back now the new turbo is on just waiting on my rad then will book a date. Did you leave at over 300ftlb torque or drop back a bit?

We dropped the torque back to 294.7lbft.

What radiator have you gone for?

Looking good that Matt..

You expecting any overheating issues come Bedford or have the necessary work done beforehand ?

Thanks mate

I’ve noticed that there’s a drop in performance previously when it gets hot so I’m not too worried about it but yes I’d imagine I’ll have it resolved before Bedford. I don’t like losing power.

Went for airtec in the end. Bought a Direnza one but there were no expansion tank take off pipes. Somehow they said this is correct? How I’m supposed to fill the system is a mystery [emoji23]

My fan had also started to play up and the airtec item comes with two already attached.
