RS Megane MK4

I see the point you’re making, but I don’t think they’re far enough away from that market to make it a niche market.

Golf R - £34k
S3 - £35k
Focus RS - £35k
Civic Type R - £31k
A45 AMG is a different price league to all of them and always will be.

All of the above come with most things as standard that you would want/need.
However, you HAVE to add the cup pack (at least) to any Mégane (I think most would agree), which adds £1500 to the list price.

That puts the Mégane at £30k for a manual, or £31k for an auto. Let alone adding AT LEAST £1k on for the trophy version. Taking it to £32k? Possibly.

That’s not enough distance from those cars to make it a different market.
This you put down the price list

This you put down the price list

Again I don’t see your point. The price list for the Mégane and options is further up this conversation, if that’s what sparked your interest.

I put down the prices of lots of cars to prove that the Mégane is in the same market as those cars.
The fact you could knock 1,2,10,15% whatever, off the Mégane isn’t relative to making it cheaper. As you could also knock that off a Golf R or S3 etc.

But you buy with your heart no

You do...

However, as much as I love RenaultSport’s, I’m not going to buy one JUST because it is one. Especially if there is (again arguably/subjectively) better in the market?
I get mine so cheap but the new Trophy will be a fantastic track car and thats the place i use mine

Gonna chime in here.

I put the new RS Megane in the same class as the i30N and the Golf GTI with the PP.

Its pricing is about the same as those 2 and has a very similar equipment level.

Don't forget its an FF car so cant really be compared to a 4wd S3/Golf R.

The Civic Type R is the problem though, its not that much more money and is arguably the best hatch out there.

It'll be interesting to see what the Mk4 RS does to Mk3 values.

I think the MK4 Trophy will be so much better than the halfords kit car sorry Type R

And the saga continues. Now our guinea pig has a not constant knocking coming out of the engine bay. Presumably a bearing or something (waterpump?). That's after one week of owning it mind you.

I've a 24 hour test drive booked in the new Meg @Pav

Any dates yet Kev? My ears have pricked up with "Free of charge cup chassis"...when will you be next seeing your friend? Would be nice to know a ballpark figure on a 3/4yr lease just out of interest.

Just my 2 pence worth... Had a look at the spec and price list and id say it's too closely priced to the others people have mentioned. Not making any real point here but just my opinion...

The Meganes price is a tad too much I think. A Golf R deal will get you one for about 29k brand new, these are the sort of deals you can get on any car though- including the new Megane I imagine.

The Type R, FK2 and FK8. The daddies in my opinion. Driven them both and having driven the 250, 265 and 275 Megane I can promise you there is a large margin in performance between the MK3 Meg and Type R. Can the MK4 Megane really bring a fight to the these? Especially considering an FK2 GT used will only set you back about 22k with service pack and warranty still intact.

The MK3 Megane. These are a f*#king good car! With the 2.0T and an unbelievable chassis a top spec 275 w/ Recaros etc etc is what? 16-20k? I love these cars as do many others and I think they look more aggressive...is it worth moving upto the MK4? Coming from such a capable car that's had all its flaws and faults ironed out.

Fully specced MK4 also costs the same as a BMW m140i which are El' Rapido and still probably specced higher from factory than the MK4 is fully specced.

Unless a 0% finance deal is really good I'll be giving the MK4 a miss.

The trophy however... Now you've got my attention! Any further info on the trophy yet?

my trophy is roughly worth 21000 with 25000 miles on. Love the look of them. Look a tad grown up for me but would love ago. If it had 350bhp id consider it abit more!
Mines running 345 and it shifts!

I've been thinking about it all night and it's keeping me awake... The MK4 has the grounds to be a true great hot hatch!Personally though I think Renault have got abit lost in their own design brief- maybe they are trying to recreate the Golf R in their own french way? Why didn't they look at their previous work and take a leaf from their own book? 2.0T,330bhp (already proven in their cars) Renault chassis,FWD, 4 wheel steering, clean interior. Job done- now take my money.

I think I'd still like to drive a MK4 just to see what it's like though...

I think we are all getting too hung up on the power.

Renault has never been the class leader with outright speed, its the chassis that always shines.

The R26 was down on power compared to the VXR.

The RS250 was a good 50bhp down on the same gen Focus RS, yet all the mags said the Megane was the better car.

Its the chassis that makes an RS.

It’s a fair point...

But I think it’s just THAT far off this time, that people have got abit disheartened.
