200 Tow strap bolt

Hi all
I recently purchased a OMP tow strap and wanted to fit it. But the holes are too small for an m20 Bolt and is not wide enough to be drilled. I have seen the previous posts regarding tapping a m12 Bolt to an m20 thread and wondered if anyone could make me one if pay for it. I don't have access to any tools at present so it's tough to do. Please pm if you can. Otherwise I'm going to have to send it back. Many thanks Terry

Hi Terry.

You’re at least the 3rd person on here recently to want one of these.......

As I’ve said previously to both of those people: If YOU do the research and find out / measure exactly what you need: and give me a basic drawing I should be able to make you one of these no worries.

Can’t read / see the drawing clearly on my phone at all Terry - I’ll look tonight at home.

I take it all dimensions, thread lengths and pitch’s etc are on there ?

Hi mate
Sorry I did it on a Microsoft paint..
Yes but I did not know the pitch for m20 thread.

This is the spec for the M12 30mm Bolt I plan to use
  • Thread size M12 x 1.75mm pitch.
  • Thread diameter 12mm.

i can measure the pitch on the end of the Renault towbar tonight. is it the tip of the thread to the tip of the thread?

It needs a proper gauge to measure. I have one and will get into the garage within an hour or so.

Just made an initial enequiry.

M20 bolts are available in Zinc plate finish at 220mm long under the head - leaving enough to cut head off and drill / tap as needed.

They are 8.8 tensile. A 10.8 tensile is available - but only in black / self colour: which will rust.....

However the shortest threaded portion of the bolt is 65mm if this is an issue.

Standard M20 bolt is 2.5mm thread rate / pitch for reference.

I think you are probably right with 2.5mm thread pitch. Just been to garage and my gauge only goes as high as 1.75, and that was way off.

65 mm for the bolt thread is fine with me better to have a bit more than less. Can you make the overall length including the 65mm thread 18cm as I'm worried the 21cm bar will poke out of the bumper and I won't be able to get the plastic cover over it(I need to cut a bit of the bottom section out for the strap to fit through)
The 8.8 Tensile is also fine.
