LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

mmm I think I'd get better value overall either removing the engine to sell or breaking down to component form to sell. -Then shoe horning a K20 in, no questions on power that way! Ah but then it's not eligible for sprints (well mod prod buts thats wild!)

Only a couple of weeks to go for mapping so find out soon enough. RST don't rekon 403's will make 220bhp though.
I've booked to have the rear brakes done on Friday (at Tech1) as they're ****ed! Might get the 330's fitted at the same time, though was kinda reserving fitting those until I know if I'm keeping it. Also get the sandwich plate fitted on Friday when the oils dropped for some fully synth (Millers Nanodrive) now the engines done 2k.

Decided I will fit the 330's regardless. So painted the outside edges and J hooks in high temp satin so they don't end up looking unsightly.

Note to anyone thinking of doing this, pay to get the black zinc treated (like my ktec rears), such a pain in the ass keying the j hooks !!

I've just put these on my car, great stopping power.

To be fair, if you sold your car in a few months or whatever you could still sell those for a few hundred quid.

Once the pads have cleaned the excess then it should look boss

Yeah they'll be worth a few hundred I guess, but my current fronts got a stone caught in the pad and gouged the disc face, so I kinda need to replace them regardless.

Monster sport called somewhat out the blue, the V6 inlet hose is in stock and will be with me tomorrrow! I have just paid - probably means 2 will turn up tomorrow, 1 from R Sport 1 from monster! If it arrives tomorrow I can get measured up for a filter on the weekend and ordered for early next week. Means I should be able to get something in place for testing at RST even if I don't have the carbon heat shields etc all fab'd up.

2 hoses means I can make 2 kits and if it makes the goods at RST, will be a few pounds back at least if someone is interested.

Haha yes it would appear so, but I have learnt not to count my chickens until they hatch. So until it's physically in my hand I will maintain at best indifferent!

Just thinkig (somewhat out loud) what I want to achieve at RST in terms of testing??

-Should probably run the car as it is now to tie up baselines.
-They will do the timing on the 21st as Paul is not there, so I guess any testing of items will occur on the 22nd when Paul is there and it's strapped on the rollers.
-Probably not worth testing the inlet manifold, I don't think for 1 minuite it wont be better than stock so seems a waste of time and cash in doing so? Just put it on after the timing is done.
-So that means probably worth putting the OEM airbox on first then and start to map on that. OEM airbox is the guy to beat really.
-Then once the mapping is done for the cams should switch to the V6/cone and try that?

Should minimise the time and money spent testing bits that way. I'll stick the sports cat in the boot just incase but I might ask for a map that wont be shy of a flame or 3

I have just been flicking through this thread, top marks for doing this work! You must have got top marks in man maths!!

I had a look on your website at the post about the piston damage. I have just fitted a Toyosport manifold to mine, do you think the manifold was the cause of it running lean? Has this issue occurred on any other Clios which have had different manifolds or Y-pipes fitted?

There wasn't any piston damage though in the end. When the pistons came out the block they were fine, the bore scope picture was very misleading and it was actually burnt carbon deposits that were raised up and not the piston crubmling away. When the new valves were lapped in the seats were in a bit of a poor way so if I had done a leak down test I would have seen it was valves and could probaby have got away with just a couple of hundred quid more on the cambelt change it was due.
Perhaps the running lean an misfiring burnt the valve seats out but still, I don't think there was any need to do what I did in the end :worried: I could have done belts and 402's, fixed the valve seats (probaby with some mild headwork) and had practically the same power for 1/3-1/4 of the cost I expect!!

Ahh, that has put my mind to rest a little! I am going to try and get some data logging done and get it on a dyno near me that can do AFR readings too just to be sure

I got mine on a dyno yesterday for some power runs and AFR graphs, everything is in check and it made 191bhp on 95ron fuel, so I am happy with that.

Induction on, it's only temporarily fitted mind, not going to go spending loads on carbon to make heat shields etc if it ends up dynoing less than the standard airbox. But noise is sweet and def better than the shifty ITG setup that was on. If it makes good power then I'll buy the carbon and get building!!

Also dropped my spare wheels off to be done satin black, will be done by the weekend.

I'm not fitting the V6 airbox, never was mate. Would require moving the battery and I like how it is mounted etc. This cone has a larger filter area than the V6 and I went for Green because that is what RS use. Also by using the V6 induction hose, I can ensure the tract length and sizing etc is spot on - once boxed in it should be perfect.

Dyno will be closed of course, but people get way too caught up on "heat soak", as soon as you are on the move the airflow over the engine is substantial. This will get more cold air than the ktec kit as it is not right behind the OE battery. As I say I am boxing it all off from the engine with carbon, just not doing this until I know it makes at least the same power as the OE airbox with a k&n panel and silicone inlet hoses. It'll be about £50 in carbon so no point in wasting it if the kit goes straight in the bin.

My ITB's never bitched about "heat soak" lol

Luck is most def required on this car now!

Just ordered 2 new tyres for my refurbed wheels, I have already got 2 x SportContact 3's in the shed with 5-6mm, so just going for SportContact 5's for the other 2 to vaugley match.

My current 200 wheels with AD08R will now be used for track only - having burnt through the AD08R's on the fronts in barley any time I don't want to run them on the road anymore!!! When the AD08R's need replacing I'll be free to try something like a FZ201 which is the advantage of having 2 sets.
