Day Time Running Lights

...spotted an RS250 with DTRL's....looked good. Got me wondering what the rules are for these. I know they will be required on all new cars eventually.....what about cars without them? Do you have to retro fit or just drive with lights on? What are the rules for using fog lights as DTRL's....can you swap the bulbs out for som LED's?

Personally I wudnt bother as I think they look cack on cars when they are fitted after market.

I would just change your side light bulbs to some LEd ones or super bright white instead of messing around with those things.

...don't intend to bolt some onto the car as I would agree they look Chav....I would just change the bulbs....the FOG lights seem a potential location but I suspect I would be pulled over all the time if I used them because they are still technically fog lights

i would say when factory fitted they look very nice, porsche ones are very nice the 250 meg ones are nice, aslong as there not added on after and just bolted to the bumper there good, however if your car like the 200 does have a lil hidy hole that will hold them nicely i would guess they would look good.

my dads the dirt bag who supplies the chavs of the country with the cheap ****ty ones out of china...
but he also sells the porsche used philips ones very pricey but amazing build and looks

sell loads too so gives the impression more people like them than hate.

Your regular sidelights are perfectly acceptable as DRL's, that is all that is used in those countries where they are already compulsory.

I always tend to drive around with my sidelights on constantly. Just habbit I guess, had too many near misses.

suprised we havent seen anyone trying to carry out a 'kit' knight rider style, and attach some of these behind the central grills either side of the badge hahaa

That would be cool  , plus some rocket launchers and a red button that you're not supposed to press.

If Renault chose to add them to the 200, I'm sure a new F1 blade would be asy to retro-fit with the DRL's already installed

I just drive with lights on all the time but just habit as im a biker aswell does no harm and makes me bit easier spotted not that i think it helps sometimes

I have some LED sidelights, always have them on. DRL's are becoming compulsory for a reason so may as well listen to them!

I always have my lights on, they come on when the engine is started and go off when I open the door. I always put them on in my work van though, easier to spot someone with the lights on.

Had so many problems with cheap LEDs in the past and as they're not that easy to change on the 197 though I'd get something reliable!

'However, from early 2011 all new types of passenger cars and light vans will have to be fitted with dedicated daytime running lamps in accordance with the relevant European directive. By summer 2012, all new vehicles will have to be so fitted.'
