Guess what............ gearbox!

Hmm, let's hope they give you another box!

When Renault were dealing with my claim yesterday, the RAC warranty people said that the spring failure was wear and tear, but the Renault technician argued it wasn't and RAC relented. Phew!

Close call, glad its getting sorted

Spoke to renault.

The assessor has seen the box and will give a verdict in the next 12 hours, presume that's working hours lol.

bad times, the ass'essor has check the fine, claims its fine... service manager states its not but the warranty group are unwilling to move at this point.

Gloves off.

I must add that Arnold Clark B'pool have been great, bearing in mind the Warranty doesn't lay with them anymore. Gave me a car to plod around with, dealt with the warranty group and are not seeking any monies for the work they have done stripping down the box etc.

Ok, sitrep

- RUK unwilling to do anything at this point.
- co-op warranty people have found no fault looking at the stripped down box, they haven't driven the car.
- service manager of the arnold clark dealership agrees there is a fault after driving the car.

The warranty group have said my next step is to take the car to a gearbox specialist, have they strip it and have a look. This will be at my cost unless the gearbox specialist finds a fault they can show to the warranty ass'essor...

So....

Anyone want a 197? The gear box is fine*

*gearbox may not be fine

has the box been checked for correct endfloat and bearing pre-load?

whats the dog teeth like on the baulkrings? same with the dogteeh on the synchrohubs on the gears?

how much metal was on the gearbox magnet?

My gear box is a bit **** going into first (usually when cold but not always) doesnt grind going into 3rd though. I've not long had the car and there is an extended warrenty with renualt on the car but not in my name. Do i need to have a new box and will the warrenty still be valid if it isn't in my name? thanks.

you need to ask those questions of the warranty supplier

Second that, some waranties can be inherited from the original owner and transferred, others can't. Either way it will need your name on it. Give them a call.

Difficulty in engaging 1st from cold isn't what I'd call a problem, crunchy synchromesh is.
