I would also like to finish by saying the pictures posted on our FB page yesterday of a a cam seal from a badly built forged Megane R26 engine is nothing to do with Paul or RST, it was built elsewhere (some people were jumping to conclusions). HAHAHAHAHA! that was me. I said on fb that I was looking forward to a response.

ouch! not good at all. I just read all the fb comments...doesn't sound good for K-tec that's for sure!

I still believe that. It doesn't matter how well K-tec approached this issue, loads of people (mostly future customers) have now second thoughts. Tuning industry is not like show biz where negative advertising is still advertising I'm afraid.

+1, unprofessional...either way, noone wins here.

I still stand by it. Some people have lost faith in the big names of Renault tuning industry (RST, K-tec, TDF, who's next?). In my eyes this could have been resolved with a phone call, end of story. It's been mentioned several times but for a company (whichever company that is) going on fb slagging another company off is not cool. Childish is the word I'm looking for?

They say Andy can't map? Possibly...but ''Andy makes ticking bombs?'' I'm not sure about that. Of course I can only speak from personal experience and from what I've read in this forum (I'm not on cliosport, neither Meganesport etc). My car has nearly 8k miles since Andy's map, out of which 5k (possibly more) on the redline. It hasn't gone bang yet, neither every single car which has a K-tec map in here. I wouldn't class that as a ticking bomb right? Maybe Andy doesn't know his stuff (I don't know about mapping), maybe his maps are not good, maybe he has loads to learn etc, but his maps do not make an engine go bang. This, I don't think.

At the end of the day K-tec maps at least one car per day, out of curiosity how many engines have deceased then?

Right, I'm confused... Who's fault is it that the gearboxes keep blowing up then!?! TDF, K-Tec or RSTuning!?!

All this has got me thinking that I just put my car back to standard map and exhaust an forget about the money I've spent. It's fine when your talking about modding a ph1 172 worth a couple of grand, but my car is still under a manufacturers warranty and worth over 5 figures. I worry about mechanical failure at the best of times, now I'm worried she might go boom. I trusted Andy because I know feck all about mapping cars, now it seems alot of people had reservations about his abilities and it's only coming out now?!

I wish I'd never bothered!!

I wouldn't worry about it Ben. The map that was used on the other guy's car was supplied for cams and was a generic map i.e. not done on the rollers with the measurements taken.

Ktec ( Andy himself ) custom mapped my old 182 on a rolling road, two months later I did a dyno day down at TDI lakeside on their hub mounted dyno.

The engineer advised me that it was running so lean top end it was close to a misfiring. Not good. But to be fair when I raised the matter with ktec they offered me another remap FOC to rectify the fault, but it was on the dyno for no more than 10 minutes... And the silly billy couldn't even get it in reverse lol. Old times

I'm not liking what I'm hearing here at all. I think I may be requesting the standard map. But that means I will have a flat spot as I'm currently catless. I stress mega about these things......if my car blew up, I'd be seriously upset. Sounds like Andy is a clown, why the f*ck has no one bothered to mention this?

At first when I saw the posts on Facebook I thought it was out of order, I'm starting to wonder if they might have done me a favour by exposing K-Tec, particularly Andy as being a bit of a yeeeehaaaa....

Take it to another garage if you feel unsure about the work done, or alternatively talk to Ktec and explain your worries and ask for them to take a second look. That'll test out their service.

I don't have any direct experience with any UK Renault tuners so i can't form my own opinion on who is good and who isn't but these tuner wars in England are getting a bit pathetic...

It seems like a never ending story, the same occured in the VXR community between Regal/Thorney/Courtney etc. If tuners worked together better products would be developed and more progress would be made, instead of wasting time slagging each other off. It works in other countries haha...

With regards to the mapping, i'm not an expert but i would never load a generic map onto my car. As i have witnessed when mapping the Clio it requires a lot of time and effort to fine tune the map, it took 4 hours to custom map it, other can "tuners" do it in 20 minutes... No matter where i live in Europe i will go back to the specialist (that only deals with mapping) in Italy to do the job, it was a far different different/longer process than the mapping i experienced when getting mapped at a tuner...

so because one particular car has been shown to have a bad map, your assuming your car must have one also, despite many of us having K-Tec maps on our cars without issue?

Maybe instead of calling someone a cowboy, you actually pick up the phone and talk to them, share your worries and see what they are willing to do for you. This way you get peace of mind and you dont slander other peoples names.
