Brake Stick

Hi all,

I don't get online often but i think this is common. My car is always garaged and it doesn't get used from week to week (usually use it once every two weeks:@). I leave it in the garage with handbrake off in 1st. Just recently everytime i go to use it the rear brakes are locked on and take a bit of effort to 'free' them.

Can anyone tell me is there a rebuild kit for the calipers i need to look out for or simply dis-assemble and then rebuild with grease?

I'm selling the car so need to make sure this problem is solved.

Thanks,

John

Pull the pistons away from the disk with your fingers or a tool.

Tap the pins out and holding plate

Remove the pads

Clean them and the calliper (I also sand them lightly)

Grease the rear slightly

Put it back together and pump till solid.

For rears its slightly more tricky

There is a bolt on each side at the rear that you remove whist holding the nut about 2/3 of the way back in the calliper

After removing the bolt the calliper top pulls off and you can get the pads out to clean and grease

Then put it all back together.

If you have a trolly and correct tools it SHOULD take you AROUND 30 mins a corner.

*****NOTE******
The front pins are well known for bending upon removal which is why you should pull the piston/pads 3/4 of the way off the disk to free them up a little.

Some will not attempt it without new ones incase they bend them.
