There is continuing research into synthetic and bio aviation fuels, there are also several test engines/air frames that have used straight LPG.
Hell in the 50/60's there were 2-3 nuclear powered aircraft! But the technical difficulties and potential problems outweighted the positives lol.... not to say modern technology couldnt prevail
Kerosene is the benchmark at the minute and has been since roughly the mid-50's, but the beauty of a gas turbine is they can be pretty much ran on anything if you can create a delivery/injection system that allows a proper mixture to be created, for example, some American sawmills use the saw dust they produce and mix it with parafin, then run their GT generators on it.
The biggest thing about aviation fuel though is the best range for the least amount of emissions
