Windows Tint Line

Bit of a strange question but I'm looking at a 197 for sale at the moment which I should hopefully be going to view tomorrow.

However I've noticed in the pictures that the rear tints have some sort of border line all around them. This doesn't seem to be the case with all the other ones I've seen and I just wondered if anyone knew what it was? Non factory fitted tints maybe?

I'm a sucker for detail and its the kind of thing that would annoy me if it's not suppose to be there!

Also if anyone knows anything about this one in particular, be interested to hear from you (KM07 CWL).

Cheers,

I don't think Renault had a window tinted extra, so any tinting you've seen would have been done after production.

I think the line you can see is if the job isn't done well enough and the tint film peels from the edges.

Ah ok, probably something that can be re-done then. It also has front tints and a sun strip as well which I'm not sold on so will probably be removing those as well.

I also noticed that this one has a double exhaust system. Can I assume that this is an aftermarket system with all the factory ones being single? Want one that's as close to standard as possible really.

Cheers,

Scott

The rear windows on my 200 have a graduated tint around the outside.

If that whole window was to be tinted and had a film applied to it - then the outside 'ring' would still be darker than the inside - giving the effect it had as standard; and still has now after-tinting infact. So i personally don't think its peeling or has any other type of problem at all......its just tinted !

Also all 197's / 200's have a dual exit exhausts. So thats standard as such. Although the tips and diffuser on the 197 arent quite the same as my 200 pictured......

And the systems and manifolds (Flexible joints on them) on these can cause and be one of the main and most costly issues on these cars. So many will have aftermarket stainless steel systems and / or manifolds on. So that could actually be seen as a plus-point; if this car has an aftermarket system and / or manifold fitted.

Because if your standard one goes and needs replacing; a genuine Renault manifold for example is circe £900 i believe; and will need approx 5-6 hours labour to fit. And in the case of the manifold: It's VERY likely too.

Good luck.

If it has a line round it then it's aftermarket tinted. It's the way the film binds around the darkened border of the original glass

The tints are definitely aftermarket. The exhaust is either a performance back box or added on tail pipes.

If you do buy, lose the mud flaps, they spoil it for me.

Cheers guys, I actually decided against going and seeing this one in the end. I'm not a huge fan of the mudflaps either to be honest and they would have been coming off if I had bought it, along with the front tints and sunstrip.

The search continues!
