what tool do I need for this?

Hi guys,

i'm rebuilding the uprights of my clio rs 200. I'm replacing all joints and the wheelbearings.

This is the baljoint that goes into the suspension A arm, but what tool do I need to replace these?

I know Peugeot do a similar ball joint turreted socket that may be right, they do two sizes in a set, maybe try taking the ball joint to a local machine mart and see if they do one that fits

I suspect one of the pug ones will fit and do the job

You'll need a press for the other ball joints.

Not sure on the socket, I think @tombate911 has some info on it.

Be careful to press them in straight. I've seen people crack the alloy before.

It’s the bigget pug socket (50mm diameter it’s listed as normally) with a mm removed from the teeth to engage the ballpoints four cutouts

Put it over the ball and bolt it with spacers (m14 nut worked for the guy I got this from, but washers would do) and then run a nut up so it doesn’t slip and is well and truly on, then it’s a 35mm socket over the tool (he used a 36 6 sided and said it did the job!)

Would a c spanner not do the job ? Or the pikey method of a big flathead screwdriver and a lump hammer.

These are on my to do list soon, thanks for the heads up
They are a ba****d to undo, see some of the ‘lower ball joint replacement’ threads most mention heat, long bars and lots of force, one bloke just brought new arms after attempting it and battering seven shade out of it, tbh I’ve done plenty of them in various guises, including lots of 407 swivel hubs and once you get round the fact they are mega tight as galvanic corrosion (two different metals) sets up a tight thread into a silly tight thread you then just workout lots of heat and a decent socket for the job does the trick I’ve even done the odd Megane hub which is very similar to the Clios but from memory it was a complete hub as it was truly mullered
