What Service?

Just came back from a French Specialist Garage, went to book my car in for one, thinking it would be a small service.

I know that Renault say 5 years or 70k miles for a timing belt change, but here's what's bugging me.

My mate had his service in March which would of been when the car was 5 years old (07 plate)

Now mine is 5 years old in September (57 plate)

Why didn't the garage do the cambelt on his and suggest it for mine? when his is and older car?

Any views?

Looking through my service book, my car has had three services stamped.

1. 12k (doesn't say what was done) 2009
2. 28k (oil filter, oil change, plugs and passenger compartment filter) 2010
3. 41k (oil filter and oil change) 2011

I have changed the air filter in my possession to an ITG

Any help is great

Well, I don't think they can force you to have your cambelt done on your service - it's just recommended - and if it does go wrong and breaks, it's going to cost quite a bit more and will do more damage.

Just had my 5 year service too, but not having the belts/water pump done until the next couple of months.

That's how I understood it anyway

Surely if your car is 5 years old in September you should have had 4 services already as opposed to 3?

Exactly what I was thinking! The second service was 4k late and the third 1k (or 5k if you're sticking to the 12k interval?)

These service's got done by the previous owner. I haven't serviced it yet in my ownership. I will have owned the car a year at the end of June.

When was the last service?

It is due the cambelt soon, but not quite yet. I suppose it depends what you want to spend. You could have the oil and filters done now then get the belt done in september/oct.

41k it says in the book which was a oil filter and oil change. April of last year

I just don't understand why the same garage didn't say to my mate about the the timing change when his was 5 years old

maybe they just didn't pick up on it for some reason.

As it'll be 5 years old in September I'd get the belts done tbh.

Not sure why they didnt catch this on yer mates car though. Surely your mate knows its supposed to get the belts done at 5 years old?

Interesting!

How come the labour cost jumps from £60 to £210 just for the coolant, plugs and brake fluid?!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just had a quote from Renault Preston to service my car, with me providing the bits (bought from Karl) and it was £204 plus VAT. Seems extortionate considering I'm providing the parts. It would be over £300 in total.

£204 just for service labour?! Or is that for the cambelt change? If you have the parts, just do it yourself! (if it's just a regular service of course!)

1st service was £160 and second £150 both at franchised dealers.

What they quote and what you pay when you push them are two different things.

Nope that was JUST labour! Cambelt is due in November. I told the lady on the phone which parts needed doing. I'd rather have a stamp in the book to be honest. All the services have been at Renault so far...
