Ultra Red Clio 200: Project Clubsport

How do the H&Rs compare to the standard springs Christopher?

In terms of ride and handling?

Looking forward to following the progress! K series would be fantastic, such an awesome engine! K24?...

Ha, that would be years down the line but it's a cool idea, I'll admit. I'd stick with the K20 though, I prefer high-revving engines and you lose 800-1000rpm with the K24 because of the longer stroke, at least with a standard bottom end.

H&R's are fantastic. In fact I liked them that much that I chose to refresh with another set of them last year. Went for new Cup dampers and H&R springs again, rather than a set of lower-end coilovers. They're a tad more crashy around town, but some of that is probably down to the AD08R's sidewalls being so hard. For B Road bashing, which is where mine spends most if it's life, they're perfect.

In the future I'd only replace them with a set of really good coilovers. Probably KW Clubsport.

Thanks for the H&R info, I'm tempted to try a set of Koni Sport dampers with either new cup springs or something like the H&Rs. Think the cost would be similar to the B14s but I think damping adjustment would be more useful to me than height adjustment..

Are the Koni's monotube dampers? Also how much are a set?
I think Bilstein B14s may not have adjustability, but they are mono and height adjustable, so actually very good value for money (as I priced up getting a new set of Cup dampers and Springs not long ago, it was basically the same).

No the Konis are twin tube IIRC, however they are very good indeed, absolutely comparable to the Bilstein B8s, just with adjustability. I have also read that they are used in the KW V2 coilovers.

I guess then price comes into it, if not terrible then could well be worth getting.
But I expect once you factor in springs and other bits you'll be nearer some of the other coilover setups.
It's hard where to draw the line / keep going "but for x amount more, you get...." lol

There are adjustable and customisable Billies on the way mate. Massive overhaul / upgrade on the regular B14s.

Interesting saw this mentioned elsewhere on the site - any ideas on when?

First set going on our car on the 30th mate. Can't wait. Bottom adjustable, new spindles, Bilstein spent 12 weeks getting the damper settings right. Basically the regular B14 are a little soft for track so this way you get the adjustability to have the best of both worlds.

They're going to be good.

You jammy git! That's going to be amazing Mes, cannot wait to hear your opinion on them.
I guess there is no pricing yet for them?

Hmm interesting so how come you get the first set?! Any idea on price etc? cant wait to see some photos and your thoughts.

@suj @kevlar

I was in the right place at the right time and have some good friends I appreciate muchly.

Yes there is pricing but it's not for me to say. I can tell you they're positioned very competitively in the midrange coilover bracket and have been developed by Bilstein in conjunction with a multiple Clio Cup championship winner. Given the regular B14s are VERY highly regarded and what I've just said here, I'm expecting them to be rather good.

I'm not even sure if I should be saying anything at this point hence me being a little sketchy but once they're on our car full details will come out. And obviously I'll be posting my thoughts on them in our build tread.

Sorry to be slightly cagey.

And @Christopher sorry for spamming your thread. I'll shut up now!

Funny I have the same (as new) springs in my cup, front shocks look the worse for ware though, interesting that you like the std setup with springs rather than cheaper coilovers, nearly fell of my seat at the price of the std 197 cup rear dampers! £300 for 2! Wow

I don't think mine were as much as that! I got a really good deal though a local dealer and know the parts manager there, so he did them at almost cost for me. :sunglasses:

The red really stands out! My intial thoughts were "Fucking hell, that's bright" good job bud! (I'm not saying that because its my favourite colour either haha) Keep up the awesome work!

So adjustable damping AND ride height. Interesting. Unfortunately, they'll undoubtedly cost a bomb in Australia :worried:
