Tractor Boy

Thanks a lot Suj mate. Can't get the first link to open. But the other looks like a recondition service or something.

Don't think we can risk it mate. Would be a lot of labour to take the hit on twice.

Although their price is ridiculously cheap!

Something to bear in mind mate, nice one.

Pretty much mate. Well, there's another option of putting a secondary cat in the Akra but obviously that's not happening, even though it would be a fraction of the cost. It's just bloody painful mate.

Mostly gutted for Mrs M. She was dead close to having full retrim money saved up. Obviously that's going to be mostly swallowed up now.

Our boiler went awol this morning Mes. I then came in after nearly 12 hours at work today and the wife said "Did you get my message"....turns out the washing machine had died during the day (3 kids, loads of washing = normal bi-yearly stuff).

Went to flick the oven on to console ourselves with a nice evening meal and that promptly committed hari-kari in sympathy. I wish i was joking - but i kid you not. Some may have seen my "F-you Tuesday" post on fb of this evening.

Anyway. Point being im gutted for Mrs M and tractor boy. No fun re-visiting the bits that worked !!! Its so hard to tuck-away a few squid for the fun things in life. And so easily 'robbed' back. I mean: how much fun have i had tonight squirting fairly big bucks into the wind on household appliances. The only good thing is that at this point is i do actually have it. Or did........

"Eyes on the prize" Mes. You taught me all i know..

BEST OF LUCK BOTH OF YOU

Mate you legend. That's an epic post.

I'm not the kind to enjoy the misfortune of others but misery does love company.

My god mate. What a day you've had! Have you had some sort of power surge or something? Gutted for you. Bet you're doing the dad thing and taking most of the hit so it doesn't affect the family too. Hope it's not eating into car funds too badly.

Blown away mate. Tuesday can cock right off.

I'm not the kind to enjoy the misfortune of others but misery does love company.

Oh the truth in that.

Did you honestly think i was going to let you squander in your own misery in this little corner of the net ! They say there's always someone worse off than you. And tonight thats me. Seriously.: Just wanted to share your pain and let you know today - 'you' (two) are most definitely not alone.

No surge mate. Just horrendous and quite frankly; unbelievable timing. Washing machines are consumables here - but gave no warning. Boiler is 12 years old and i guess has lived its day. Cooker...well....gets used every day. Part and parcel of bringing up 3 kids and i wouldnt trade it and the joys it brings for the World.
The "best" bit is we've got a slight plumbing problem too - and the plumber hasn't even had time to come and look at it yet. A quick grand+ gone today on unplanned and not-needed 'shit'. Like you i'm sure - i can't think of anything in life i'd rather not spend hard-earned on. And the boiler man still needs feeding for further parts as yet. Fingers crossed the plumber's on a diet.

So: what are your plans getting back to the point and on-topic. Have you really had time to logically think of the options and figure a line of attack. Or is it all too much too soon ?

And to now know those funds were ear-marked for seats...is well...er...news of the very worst sort. I know THAT has been on the calendar for some time and i truly feel Mrs M's pain tonight. As you clearly do too.

What this will do though of course - is make the seats even more special when they happen

Continued best of luck pal.......

Another top quality post mate. Poo the bed, it's all go over there isn't it? Incredible story of bad luck there mate. Your summing up sets the scene well though, what can you do? You buy it, you use it, it dies. Shitty shitty timing though mate. Did crack a smile at the bit about hoping the plumber is on a diet!

As for us, right now unless something miraculous happens, it's a brand new Renault mani (which will no doubt be on back order) and a large labour bill. But I really don't think there's much of an option. Need a strong, efficient new cat due to not having the secondary.

And the seat fund... that's a worst thing about it mate. We (she mostly) are very good with money. But that means being super strict with the way things are paid for. I'm trying my best to persuade her that we should just breathe in for a bit and pay it out of every day funds so it doesn't affect the seats.

Although we've got the bill for the paintwork on the way too. But at least it's done and looking great so Sean at Jade tells me!

The seats were going to be special whatever, you know as well as anyone! But yeah, I do appreciate things more when I've had to work for them, not sure how Mrs M feels about that though!

Blimey what on earth is going on in here? @sevenfourate this must be the worse timing of bad things happening I've even seen/read/heard! So gutted for you!

Mes, you are not really considering a brand new manifold surely! Mate, dropping the subframe and fitting an OEM part is something all decent garages can do, I mean some people in here do it on their driveway with the car on axle stands!

Pav in here sells his with very reasonable mileage, get it and pay a garage £200 to fit it and job is a good one. Remember, that dodgy fuel you used in Belgium might have damaged it...We don't really hear the pre cats going on out cars.

@Pav has sold his mani mate. And I could be waiting a while for another one to come up, and who knows what condition it will be in or how many miles it has done. I don't really see many options here.

We can discuss on Saturday, but I'm going to take a lot of convincing.

Oh what a bugger Mes! Typical life getting in the way of fun. Almost makes me want to fit a Toyo onto mine just so you can have my OEM part! Appreciate the 'buy cheap, buy twice' mindset though, it's such a shame the Akra kicks you in the balls with the limited options for the manifold.

Just caught up on this thread. Gutted for you Mes. Life does have a way of kicking you where it hurts most. Just have to suck it up & move on.
All of the above applies to you too @sevenfourate.

Ha, thanks fella. It's the "buy cheap, buy twice" bit that is bothering me mate. Spend £400 now and run the risk of needing to spend another grand? Or just go straight in with the grand and know it's as good as it can possibly be? I'd love yours mate but don't put the Toyo on!!!

Thanks John. It's a real kick in the nuts but I always try and be pragmatic about these things. Usually it wouldn't be such a killer but new Lotus and a £2k bill on new brakes for the BMW and yeah... it's a bit of a stretch right now!

You're right though, suck it up and move on. Crappy now but all forgotten about soon enough.

Very sorry to hear about that Mes, shame it had to come so soon after the joy of getting the Exige :worried: proper kick in the nuts. On a positive note, I've heard lots of good reports about Tony Banks in Leeds, very strong reputation up here. If you can get that sorted with him, I think you'll be happy with the service. Best of luck with it all mate.

And @sevenfourate , that is some shitty luck! Sorry to hear about that also mate :worried:

Feel your pain, I replaced my manifold as it was on its way out - went with K tec manifold with k tec de cat as I to have akra seems to be a good combo.

Taa Jimmy. It's an option I'll consider for sure. We just need a cat that functions as new really. Loads of people run Akras with no trouble at all. Just sods law that ours is so borderline that it's off and on. Begs the question if it's ok would it pass an MOT?

Pain in the arse!
