Toby's Track-Ready Daily 197

Didn’t think I’d like it but I do!

Nice effort doing it yourself. Possibly would’ve preferred straighter stays myself but that’s here nor there.

Looking forward to more updates
I know what you mean. I’ve followed the angle of the black vinyl from straight on, so at least there’s a reason for it!

My immediate list:

- wrap the interior stuff
- steering wheel
- aux cable install (mine didn’t come with one, and I cba to spend dolla on a new HU)
- refresh the callipers, new discs and Ferodo pads (yellow calliper paint?!)
- cup suspension and lower the car a bit
- wheels (17x8J Ultraleggeras prob)
- REMAP!!!

Hopefully that explains my thought process!

Added some canards. Dunno if I like them. So I bought some more.

See how these special carbon fibre wrapped top quality plastic pieces of crap look tomorrow. They were £8 on Amazon.

Before and after remap! The chap said his dyno was reading a tad low but even so, wasn’t very happy with 180 brake. Even if it was in reality 185wbhp that still ain’t good enough.

Fixed the apparently standard flat spot and added a bit of burble on the overrun (I opted to avoid for full on bang pop, I ain’t a chav!)

He also raised the Rev limit to 7500.

I’m happy with 191bhp, even if it’s probably only back to original power. I’m not gunna go chasing bhp on an N/A, been down that route before and it becomes a money pit.

Would be good to hear what it sounds like on overrun. I'm thinking of a remap too as my flat spot is terrible and power throughout rev range seems all over the place.
Well, I don’t have a straight through exhaust so it’s not anything crazy.

A sunny day last week meant a trip down to my mate’s lock up. I read a few guides on taking the steering wheel off and decided this was one job I was likely to mess up.

SO! Out with the old...

And in with the new!

I used to have this exact wheel in my old MR2 Turbo and I miss it, a lot. Here it is in said car:

Anyway, I got home and worked out a method for making the cruise control work. It was called, drill some holes!

Looks okay. I’ll tidy up the wires and that’ll help!

Okay, internal dash wrap time.

This one’s gunna split opinion!

Removing the trim was easy peasy, flathead screwdriver from the top and then a pull, it’s hard to break any clips doing it this way.

I wrapped the centre console gloss black and yellow, and then all of the trim pieces black with a digitally cut yellow stripe (4mm).

Now it matches my wheel! You’ll notice the HU is out - it needs an aux input.

First, I bought the cable online here. It plugs into the empty slot if you don’t already have one.

I bought a female one because I wanted to mount it somewhere. Cue the drill!

Just above the din slot. Lovely. Left me enough room to tuck the wire behind and on top of the head unit.

Also bought a very small aux cable.

Hope you guys like it!

Yesterday was a ball ache but after installing some RS seat mounts I now have fitted seats again. Yay!

They’re also level.C49D1B7D-EACE-449C-ABC1-D7955A72459B.jpeg3097F852-F3A3-4388-8CEE-947B8EEED2A7.jpeg 9D55A7F8-FC01-40B4-BB24-F0E341802564.jpeg170B6584-36CA-4A1A-B33B-67887E11EC67.jpeg

Also added the canards I was on about and tinted the fogs.

As a racer you should be seriously worried about those harnesses. The very maximum angle advised is 45deg and and in that it is not something I would ever want. You hit something and you body will move forward with a force that all the belts can do is compress your spine. Get a proper harness bar at very minimum.

It's very soon on the list. I do 5 miles in 30 limits to and from work and that's it

Can you advise on a good harness bar? Ktec's is £418!
