This is really bugging me now I might actually cry :(

So I've got a R27 197 and it's perfect to drive but I still can't get rid of this flashing engine management light (sometimes check esp)and i really need help on how to get it off so heres what happens

it will only come on when i'm not moving freely i.e creeping in traffic and sitting at lights did a 2 hour trip to liverpool on the motorway the other day didn't come on once on the motorway only when i was sitting in traffic in liverpool it doesn't affect performance or anything just flashes away :worried:

although the other day whilst it was on as i was sitting at a red light i tried to pull away quickly the car revved until 4000rpm give or take then the check esp light came on with the spanner and the car lost power it also sounded different too almost like it was misfiring but i couldn't pull over so eased it up the road two seconds later the engine management light stopped flashing but the Check ESP light was still on and the car ran perfectly again, i pulled over when i had the chance turned engine on and off both lights were gone and the car ran perfectly again and i just can't get my head around what it would be it was serviced less than 2000 miles ago with all the belts and everything done oil changed everything changed the only thing that i could think of is this

when i brought the car it had a decat on i replaced this with a new (second hand) manifold and cat at the same time, the guy i brought the car off said the car had been remapped for the decat? would this affect the car since i put the cat back on and would the ecu still be telling the car it had no cat even though it does? and if this is the case would this be the problem?

i remember reading a thread about a guy who had the same problem and he said he replaced his lambda sensor and it fixed it could this be the problem because for the life of me i cannot find it I'm running out of ideas and If i see the orange light flash once more i might cry!

on my own machine it only says one which is 'random cylinder misfire' but i'll be getting it read this week from a proper machine

Need to get a computer on it mate that can read the codes (manufacturer specific) then that will help you resolve it! Until then it's a guessing game! Where are you from ?

if its been mapped for no cat and then you have fitted a cat and not had it remapped it wont be fuelling correctly...

p0300 random misfire - you wont find whats causing it - as that code is used because the ecu cannot detect what the actual fault is

if you access to live data - check the lambda voltage - might give you a clue

i'm from birmingham, i guess ill need to find someone to map it can they flash it back to stock or will it need to be properly re mapped? like a dyno run and everything?

can anyone recommend anyone to get it remapped by? or somewhere to take it too? closer to midlands is preferred but i can travel!

Misfire could be because it's running richer due to you dropping the cat back in when it was previously mapped without. Too much fuel could be causing it not fire properly.

I had a similar problem with my 172 Clio random engine management light and 4000RPM limp mode. I found heavy rain would bring on the light and driving real smooth and short shifting and in traffic, my initial thought was water or damage in the wiring I bought new coil pack, throttle body it was doing my head in and using a cheap diagnostic tool I would get general error codes to do with emissions and misfile I think Cyl 3. I took a multimeter and checked the resistance on each of the injector pins and found a different resistance on the number 3 injector and as they were £30 each for genuine ones I replaced all 4 thinking I was sorted. When the light came on a few times more I bought a Renault clip for about £125 and it was able to tell me that the heating element on the No.2 lambda was not working and since I had already changed the first one and the lead was on it was longer than the second I took the old first stage lambda and replaced the faulty second stage lambda with it problem solved. When your not driving on there is not enough heat in the exhaust system to get true readings which the heating element would correct. If your car has a map in it and u want to go to std it should be easy for any dealer to flash the factory map into the car if that's what you want I don't know about backing up the map in the car first in case u want to go back maybe the rentune box allows u to flash std maps and backup the current one. A Renault clip with the programing code for your car and a std map will let u flash the map yourself.

See this is exactly what the other guy who's symptoms matched mine exactly said he did said he changed the lambda sensor and it was fixed I might take it my Renault garage today and ask them about the maps but I have a renault
specialist by me who's quite helpful so I'll take the car to him today too see what he says about it and see if he can give me some reading on the sensors and what he thinks the problem could be cheers mate!

What I did was change the first stage lambda which is the one that does the fuel mixing and that did not fix it the first time. It was the second time I changed the downstream or second stage lambda which is the checking one that makes sure everything is OK which was giving inaccurate readings due to the failed heating element. The Renault clip can monitor the heating element resistance and inform you which lambda is faulty, another benefit of the clip is the airbag light it can tell you which airbag (seat base, side airbag or dash airbag) passenger or drivers side is faulty and live resistance figures of each connector so you can fix it without cutting the loom up and find you did not have to.

I've had the exact same issue twice now, last year and recently a few months ago. It was really only when sitting in traffic when the engine light started blinking. I've had it resolved the first time with a new set of spark plugs and ignition coils, second time with a new lambda sensor and having all injectors cleaned in a sonic bath. Looking back it might be that all those parts added up in the engine running a bit rough at idle, causing the warning lights and random misfires. Hope this helps!

did you replace the first or second lambda sensor if you can remember mate?
